AUBURN -5

--Ok, below are some Key Factors and Situational Edges that I feel will favor the Tigers in this game between the two...Because these two are almost mirror images of eachother in almost every category...I will just show where i I also have listed some Stats, Trends, and other Info that support my play on Auburn today. So without further adui lets get to them..

*KEY FACTOR # 1: Auburn's Passing Game Led by Sr QB Jason Campbell makes Auburn's offense a very dangerous balanced attack...

This year's Auburn team can really attribute much of its success to their 2 headed RB attack of Williams and Brown, but they also need to include Auburn's QB Campbell as well, in why they have been able to go undefeated and playing in this Bowl game that they are in today...

Sr QB Jason Campbell, this past season didnt get the recognition he fully deserved, until this year when he was recently named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches, and it is hard to argue with the selection considering that he completed a stellar 69.7 % of his passes, for a career-high 2,511 yards with 19 touchdowns and only 6 ints...

Some national stats, I feel are worth mentioning about QB Campbell, is that he ended the regular season ranked 3rd in the nation in passing efficiency...Only behind Louisville's LeFlors and Utah's Smith....Campbell also ranks 4th in the nation in completion % at 69.7%...Campbell also ranks 2nd in the nation in yards/attempt passing at 9.89....Compare to Campbell, Va Tech's Randall is ranked 33rd nationally in passing efficiency...Ranked 72nd in completion % at 55.6%, which actually have been decreasing each of Randall's 3 seasons...and this should indicate his lack of talent around him as one reason....Randall also ranks 47th in the nation in yards/attempt passing at 7.33....

Every week, both Randall and Campbell did something to put his team in position to win a game....For Campbell, it was through the air that he got this done....Ex, the 4th and 12 throw to WR Courtney Taylor against LSU quite simply is, well, you’ve got to have massive stones to make and complete a throw like that in the face of the Tiger rush.....Then against Tennessee, in Game I, he completed 12 of 15 passes in the first half to effectively put the Vols to rest in Neyland Stadium.....Against Alabama in Tuscaloosa after the Tiger offense had struggled in the first half vs the solid Tide Defense, Campbell threw a 51 yard dart to WR Devin Aromashodu to put the Tigers in position for their first touchdown of the game in the 3rd Q.....After getting the ball back, Campbell threw a beautiful pass to Taylor for a 32 yard game winning TD.....And lastly, in the SEC title game against the Revenge minded Tenn Vols, Campbell made two of the prettiest throws you’ve ever seen for TDs, which finally broke the back of the Vols in the second half to close it out in the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta.

This is Campbells stats this year vs SEC teams who had solid defenses and teams overall....Vs LSU, he threw for 170 yards for 59.3%, 1 TD, 2 sacks, in the win.....Vs Tenn, he threw for 252 yards and 69.6%, 2 TDs, 1 int, and 1 sack.......Vs Ark, he threw for 297 yards, 89.5%, 3 TDs, no sacks........Vs Georgia, he threw for 189 yards, 81.8%, 1 TD, 1 int, and no sacks........At Alabama, he threw for 224 yards, 75%, 1 TD, 1 int, and 1 sack......Vs Tenn, he threw for 374 yards for 77.1%, 3 TDs, 1 int, and 1 sack......In Campbell's last 3 games vs 3 very solid defenses in Georgia, Alabama, and Tenn, Campbell averaged 262 ypg passing with a completion rate of 78%....WOW!

Side Note #1: Randall was Sacked 34 times on the year which is ranked 11th most...What should be noted also is this occurred to a QB who is ranked 68th in total attempts by a QB in the nation with just 268.

Side Note #2: Campbell has only been Sacked 11 times this year....compared to 25 times last season.

Side Note #3: Auburn ranks 35th in nation in total yards passing per a game with 241.4 ypg.....Va Tech ranks 93rd w/ 178.00 ypg average.

Side Note #4: Auburn ranks 12th in nation in 3rd down % at 46.48%......Va Tech ranks 53rd in nation in 3rd down % with 38.99%.

Side Note #5: Campbell is 23 years old Sr, which explains his ability to control his emotions and not get rattled or panic..

Side Note #6: Randal's completion % which shows his decrease in efficiency each year at QB...in 2004= 55.6%, in 2003= 61.2%, in 2002= 63.7%.

Virginia Tech's Bryan Randall doesn't have the offense around him that Auburn's Jason Campbell has, but he was able to be tremendously effective in the one most important area: winning. Randall had his lowest completion percentage of the last three years at only 55.6%, but he had a career high in touchdown passes (19) and low in interceptions (7) since taking over the starting gig. But Randall's vs some of the nation's best defenses, time and time again was able to come up with the key plays needed to keep the Hokies offense moving on...Dont know how he did it, but this is how he performed vs some of the best defenses this year......Vs USC defense, he threw for 153 and 48.3%, 1 TD, 1 int, and 4 sacks......Vs NC St, he threw for 156 yards, 44%, 1 TDs, and 10 sacks.....Vs WV, he threw for 142 yards, 47.1%, 0 TD, 2 ints, and 1 sack........Vs GT, he threw for 304 yards, 58.1%, 3 TDs, 1 int, and 1 sack.......Vs Maryland, he threw for 137 yards, 57.1%, 2 TDs, and 1 sack......Vs Virginia, he threw for 200 yards, 72.7%, 2 TDs and 2 sacks........and Vs Miami, he threw for 148 yards, 61.1%, 2 TDs, and was sacked 5 times.

Auburn offense with QB Campbell has the potential of being to much more balanced as he compliments the Best RB duo in the nation, has a deep corp of receivers in Taylor, Aromashodu, Mix, as well as, Williams and Brown, to toss the rock too....This Auburn offense led by Campbell, Williams, and Brown has been so effective and effecient, this year, that all three of them were voted to the All SEC-First Team, which was the 1st time in conf history that one team, has featured an all same school backfield...

Last year, the Wisconsin Badger defensive gameplan was designed to stop the Cadillac and Ronnie Brown and their running game, essentially telling Campbell we going to let you try and beat us.....Well, he did....If Tech comes out with this same plan of attack against Campbell, he should be able to effectively handle the task again...with the help of his deep WR Corp which can beat this Va Tech secondary, especially with their big, fast, receivers they have this year...not to mention the accuracy Campbell posses, to go along with the Tiger's Big Uglies Unit providing solid pass protection as well, only allowing opponents to take down "the Future" as he is known 11 times...Solid!.....But, dont also forget that Campbell is a wise and experienced veteran, who has proven to worthy of this kind of challenge from opposing defense who came into their game with this same plan...Bottom line, is it wont be so easy as stopping the Tigers running game in order to beat this team, their is just to much balance this year in this offense and further more, some of the best defenses in the nation tried it already and the Campbell and the Tigers are still undefeated...Two Headed Monster, is my next Key Factor to winning this game for Auburn...

Key Advantage for Auburn: Offense averages 33.4 ppg and 430.8 ypg of total offense, and the balance that has been achieved by the unit with Campbell is remarkable and again a big reason for the success of this Tiger team this year....Tonight I expect him to come out with a big performance.

*KEY FACTOR # 2: Auburn's RB Duo of Williams and Brown provide more then just a threat at running the ball...

First off, I am just going to say it, Williams and Brown are the BEST RB duo in all of college football this year....Sr RB Williams and Sr RB Brown, are both also considered to be NFL 1st round draft pick worthy, and this says a lot.....Williams provides the speed, while Brown provides the power.

RB - Carnell Williams, 5-11 204 Sr....finished the regular season with 1,104 yards rushing and 13 TDs which also led the RB loaded SEC conf...That total rushing yardage ranks Williams at 25th in the nation....His 13 TD's also are ranks him at 23rd in the nation as well....Va Tech's RB Imoh only has 6 TDs on the year ranking him 99th in this category....Other stats and honors racked up by Williams is 2nd team All-American selection by AP....Williams is also Auburns leader in career rushing TDs with 45, and in scoring with 276 pts....Not to mention is also one of the leagues Top punt and Kick off returners.

RB - Ronnie Brown, 6-1 232 Sr...has totaled 845 yards and 8 touchdowns this year...

Ronnie Brown does not get quite as much attention, but he is averaging 6.1 ypc as compared to 5.0 ypc for Williams....and it says a lot about the quality of Auburn's RB's when their All-American starter is not even considered to be the better NFL prospect...Nonetheless, both together have worked very successfully at making this backfield one of the most elite, as well as, feared ones this year...

What also makes these two RB's that much more special and valuable to this offense's success is the fact that they also provide a receiving threat out of the backfield....Brown the more versatile of the two, is Auburn's 4th leading receiver with 313 yards receiving, 9.2 ypr average, and scored 1 TD...Brown this year caught a total of 34 passes which is 10 more than he had his 1st three years combined.....Williams is 7th on the team in receiving with 158 total yards, 8.3 ypr average and also scored 1 TD.

This is what Williams did vs some of the better defenses in the SEC and also the nation.....Vs LSU, he rushed for 75 yards, 4.2 ypc, 3 receptions for 17 yards.....Vs Tenn, he rushed for 95 yards, 4.0 ypc, 1 TD, and 1 reception......Vs Ark, he rushed for 71 yards, 4.4 ypc, 1 TD, 1 reception........Vs Georgia, he rushed for 101 yards, 5.3 ypc, 1 TD, and had 4 receptions........Vs Alabama, he rushed for 41 yards, 2.7 ypc, 1 TD, and 2 receptions......Vs Tenn, he rushed for 100 yards, 5.3 ypc, 1 TD, and had 2 receptions...

Brown.....Vs LSU, rushed for 67 yards, 7.4 ypc, and had 1 reception......Vs Tenn, he rushed for 57 yards, 4.4 ypc, 1 TD, and had 6 receptions for 79 yards.......Vs Ark, he rushed for 101, 6.7 ypc, 1 TD, and 1 reception.....Vs Georgia, he rushed for 51 yards, 4.3 ypc, and had 7 receptions for 88 yards......Vs Alabama, he rushed for 55 yards, 3.4 ypc, 1 TD, and had 3 receptions......and Vs Tenn, he rushed for 50 yards, 5.1 ypc, and had 6 receptions for 55 yards....

As you can see, this RB duo of Williams and Brown definately bring a lot of value being able to both keep the GROUND EM AND POUND EM GAME ROLLING, but they also can provide the passing game another receiving threat..something that is an important part of success of the West Coast Offense...Va Tech's Duo RB's of Imoh and Humes isnt used in this way in their offensive schemes, like how Williams and Brown are, which I feel is a benefit for the Auburn defense....and not so much for the Hokies defense who must now be aware of these two on both running, as well as, passing situations....This threat should be what freezes the LB's from simply dropping back in hook and zone coverage and that should enable Auburns speedy WRs the ability to hit the soft spots in this Hokie pass defense, which will be right behind those LB's....In the Tenn game, Auburn had a lot of success with just this type of crossing patterns....

Advantage for Auburn over Virginia Tech will be in their RB's and WR's....Auburn's RB duo of Williams and Brown is probably the best duo in the land both rushing and receiving....Virginia Tech's weakness this year is in their WRs and their 93rd ranking in pass offense averaging 178 ypg clearly shows this..

Side Note #1: Carnell Williams was recently named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year by the coaches..

Side Noter #2: Auburn is ranked 21st in the nation in rushing per a game with 189.4 ypg average.....Va Tech is ranked 24th averaging 186.8 ypg rushing.

Bottom line here, is Va Tech hasnt faces a RB duo quite as solid as what Auburns has....Carnell Williams is the main threat will show all of the flash, quickness and speed that has pro scouts drooling...His partner in crime, and Auburns do-it-all running back Ronnie Brown will be used more for his size, pass catching ability, and frightening combination of power and speed will be a lot for Va Tech to handle tonight....If these two get off in a big way, which I expect them to do, Campbell will also have a big day as well...This season has shown that the more effective these two are, the better Campbell is...and with these three working its offense like it has all year long, the Tigers will possess to much offensive balance in the end for the Hokies to control.

Key Factor # 3: Auburn's Secondary vs Va Tech's Young and Inexperienced WR Corp....

Auburn Sr DC Junior Rosegreen and Carlos Rogers lead a stellar defense that allowed opponents to score only 11.2 ppg and average 269.5 total ypg.....Rogers, is the BEST cover man in the nation and winning this years Jim Thorpe Award, say this loud and clear....This year, he lead the team with 10 pass breakups, which increased his career totoal to 40, and he also recorded another career high by posting 5 TFL....The other Tiger terror in the secondary along with Rogers this year, was Sr SS Rosegreen, who recorded a career high 5 ints this year...To illustrate just how shutdown this secondary has been for the Tigers this year, opposing quarterbacks have more interceptions (14) than passing touchdowns (13) against the Tigers this season....And, the defense is allowing a low average of just 10.9 yards per completion...This year, Va Tech's offensive weakness is in their young and inexperienced receiving corp, and this doesnt bold well vs this Top Ranked Secondary of the Tigers....

No receiver for Va Tech has made more than 25 grabs for the team this year....and their lack of a go to Stud on the outside is what will hurt Tech tonight when Auburn put them in 3rd and long situations...When this happens, expect Rogers and Rosegreen to Key up on the Tech WR or to call blitzing schemes to get to Randall...This is a scheme which has been effective in stopping the Tech offense this year, as Randall has been sacked a whooping 34 times..

Side Note #1: The Hokies are averaging an impressive 32.2 ppg, but, more than half of the 364.8 ypg that they average has come on the ground...This lack of balance will catch up to them tonight.

KEY FACTOR # 4: Auburn's Receivers will give the Tigers that Big Play down field...

Auburn's Receivers, I feel will play a big role in this game just like did vs Tenn....Auburn's WR's Corp is a deep, talented, and tall one led by 6 2" Soph WR Courtney Taylor, who lead all receivers with 650 yards receiving on 38 catches, 17.1 ypc avg, and scored 6 TDs.....2nd on the team in receiving is 6 2" Jr WR Aromashodu who has a total of 508 yards receiving on 23 catches...He is also their deep threat averaging 22.1 ypc, and scoring 3 TDs.......3rd on the team in receiving is 6 1" Jr WR Obomanu who has 350 yards receiving on 25 catches, 14.4 ypc, and scored 7 TDs.....RB Brown is 4th in receiving with 34 receptions for 313 yards, 9.2 ypc, and 1 TD....6 4" Jr TE Wallace is 5th with 18 catches for 267 yards, 14.8 ypc.....6 5" Jr WR Mix is 6th with 17 catches for 226 yards, 13.3 ypc, and 3 TDs.......RB Williams is 7th on the team with 158 yards receiving on 19 catches, 8.3 ypc, and 1 TD.......

This year, QB Campbell has the targets and talent around him and at his disposal which he has been using very effectively and efficiently....The consistancy of this group of receivers is a big reason as to why Campbell has a higher % and more TDs then compared to Tech's Randall, who's completion % has gotten worse each season....This years drop in passing efficiency for him is certainly a result of the young and inexperienced WR's he has to work with....In fact, two of Va Tech's leading receivers are only Fr in WR Royal-25 catches for 433 yards, 17.3 ypc, and 3 TDs.....and Fr WR Hyman-22 catches for 420 yards, 19.1 ypc, and 5 TDs....Both of them also are small WR's at 5'10"(Royal) and 5'11" (Hyman)...........3rd in receiving for Va Tech is Jr TE King-22 catches for 292 yards, 13.3 ypc, and 4 TDs,.....and Soph WR Clowney-18 catches for 240 yards, 13.3 ypc, and 2 TDs...

Va Techs RB Imoh and Humes are not a factor in the passing game, as they do not possess the versatile athleticism that Auburns dynamic duo possesses....Auburn just to many secondary weapons which I see as being a major factor in this game, especially if the Hokies simply come out to stop Williams and Brown....And as I have mentioned earlier, trying to disrupt this backfield inorder to throw Auburn's offense off like the Hokies was able to do in their last game vs Miami, will not be that easy to do as both Alabama and Georgia's, who both posses outstanding pass rushers and a solid ass defense could not do it enough to effectively affect Campbell and Co.....and when the Hokie fail to consistantly disrupt Campbell, he should be able to make them pass with his deadly accuracy to his solid WR's....Remember, Va Tech's defense does have a solid statistically vs the pass on defense...but, they havent yet faced a team which possesses this much balance for one, and this Auburn pass offense is no slouch also, as they are ranked 2nd in passing in the SEC and they also have more total yards passing then all of the teams in the ACC conf...

Again, to much Tiger offensive balance with it running and passing game will be the major Keys leading to a Tiger victory tonight...

SITUATIONAL EDGES:

.-Auburn D-Line: Also worthy of mention is the fact that the defense has posted a solid total of 35 sacks, and Quentin Groves and Stanley McClover lead the club with 7.5 sacks apiece....Plus dont forget that Va Tech's O-line has allowed QB Randall to be sacked 34 times which is ranked as the 11th most in the nation..

-A player that everyone is saying could have a big impact on this game is Va Techs talented DE Darryl Tapp, who has 16 TFL, and 8 sacks....But, I feel that Auburn will definately prepared effectively to make him less effective tonight...Both teams is mirror images of eachother, but Auburn is more talented..

-OVER 70% of the Crowd at the Sugar Bowl will be routing for Auburn.....and this will only fuel this already angry Tiger team.....If you think Auburn will be depressed because they were held out of a Championship Title shot, well their not....Coach Tuberville still thinks that they have a shot at winning the title and that is all the team needs to know, which will keep them motivated and pumped up....Coach Tuberville knows that he needs to change the minds of 18 voters inorder to win the Championship, and the only way to do that is by having a dominating performance over the #6 Va Tech team tonight...

.-This Auburn team with its strong senior leadership it possess will not let anyone stop short or quit in this one at all....Remember, both Williams, Brown, and some of the other seniors came back to Auburn for their Senior season for these exact reason...a chance to play for the SEC Championship and then for the National Championship, they already fulfilled one of their goals...tonight they get the other one fulfilled...

-Campbell was brilliant completing 70% of his throws for 19 touchdowns and 6 ints running the West Coast offense to near perfection, and although he threw an ints in each of his last 4 games...he has simply still remained RED HOT completing and AMAZING 78% of his passes in the last 3 games, which I must add were against 3 Bowl Teams (Alabama, Georgia, and Tenn)....Fricken Unreal!....I will take that type of consistant accuracy anyday.

-Tonight, is SHOWTIME and the NFL Coming out party for many Auburn Players....Tech lack of a high profile offensive performers will finely catch up to them vs these household named All American players on both the offense and defense of the Tigers..

*Bottom line in this one...Auburn is to balanced on offensive to be shut down by Va Tech's defense...They have a deep corp of receivers that will expose this Va Tech defensive secondary who didnt really face an offense as potent as the Tigers possess....Two of the Best RB's in the Nation playing their final collegiate game and a Sr QB completing over 75% of his passes the last 3 games of the year vs 3 bowl teams....Plus a defense that is #1 in scoring defense in the land, which probably also has the best secondary in the land as well...Not to mention that this team is a Sr driven and Sr led team who came back for this exact purpose and goal, to WIN A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP....All AUBURN TIGERS TONIGHT....TAKE THE TIGERS AS A "BIG GAME PLAY"--BOWL GAME OF THE MONTH selection.....Good luck and LETS GO GET EM!....ALOHA CC.
