DALLAS -4 over Sacramento
Owners of the best record in the Western Conference, the Dallas Mavericks try to defeat the only conference foe they have lost to twice this season, when they host the Sacramento Kings in a meeting of division leaders. Dallas, which lost in five games to Sacramento in the Western Conference semifinals last year, is 4 1/2 games ahead of Sacramento and is opening a three-game homestand.
Dallas had won six straight contests following a three-game losing streak before losing at Orlando on Tuesday, 98-93. Sacramento, which is 2 1/2 games in front of Portland for the lead in Pacific Division, capped a 6-1 homestand with an 81-75 triumph over Eastern Conference power Detroit on Tuesday.
While the Mavs have obviously had their problems with the Kings, we see them getting the job done here. Dallas has made it clear that they could care less about beating up on poor teams, but are clearly and completely focused on defeating the NBA's best. They turned over this new leaf with a recent home victory over San Antonio, a team that has dominated them as of late. This contest will have a playoff type atmosphere, at least for the Mavericks, and they should simply be the more motivated team here. They are an amazing 10-1 ATS when hosting opponents off 2+ home wins, while the Kings are 0-3 ATS on the road off 2 home victories and 1-5 away off 3 straight home wins. At home, playing with double-revenge, Dallas is a dandy 4-0 ATS, beating the pointspread by 11 points a game.
As for Sacramento, they are a horrific 0-7 ATS on the road vs. opponents looking to avenge a close loss of 1-3 points. In those 7 spread defeats, the Kings have fallen short of the Vegas number by an average of 18 points a contest! In addition, they are 0-4 ATS on the road vs. an opponent they beat on the road in their previous meeting. The Kings may keep this one close for awhile, but Dallas will be very determined to not let this get away, as it is, perhaps, their most-needed win of the season.
