The hottest team in the Horizon Loyola-Chicago, winners of 5 straight, concludes their regular season as they host city rival Illinois-Chicago in a Senior Night game that could decide third place and a first round bye in the conference tournament. The Ramblers are 9-1 at the Gentile Center and are 20-3 over the past 2 seasons. They have won eight of their last nine conference home games and will need help from Youngstown St. and Butler over the weekend to capture the third place spot in the conference. During its five-game winning streak, Loyola has allowed just 68.2 ppg while limiting opponents to .421 (128 for 304) shooting from the field and .305 (29 for 95) from three-point land. Rebounding has improved a great deal as over the last twelve contests Loyola is hauling in 41.3 rpg after grabbing 35.8 rpg in the first 16 games of the season. The Flames of Illinois-Chicago are 8-5 on the road and have won three in a row overall after losing back-to-back road games to conference leaders Butler and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. They have taken care of the patsies but have struggled against the upper level teams and should find another struggle tonight. One of their biggest weaknesses on the road is their free throw shooting as they are hitting just 59% of their attempts from the charity stripe. The Ramblers will be out for double revenge after losing their first matchup this season by 4 points at Illinois-Chicago and also the final game of last season, the Horizon Conference Championship game. The Flames earned a trip to the NCAA tournament with a 76-75 overtime victory that ended the Ramblers season and Loyola would like nothing better than a big victory on Senior Night and do their best to sneak their way into a third place finish. Look for the home team to win this bitter rivalry.
