WISCONSIN BADGERS VS GEORGIA BULLDOGS OUTBACK BOWL - TAMPA FLORIDA

NEW YEAR'S DAY 11:00 AM EST

This games matches teams with identical 9-2 records, but the Badgers are 7-4 ATS while the Bulldogs are an anemic 4-6. Neither team has played well ATS on the road as they are 2-3 and 1-3 respectively while playing away. This game will play to a packed house since both schools have big followings, thus there is no real home crowd advantage. Both of these clubs flirted with National Title hopes during the year, and some think could be disappointed with the placement in the Outback Bowl. Each team has faced a tough schedule, with Wisconsin getting the edge at 39th compared to Georgia's 44th. The Badgers are the more veteran of the teams with eighteen returning upper classman to the Bulldog's fourteen. Wisconsin relies a great deal on running back Anthony Davis (894 yds. 5yds/c), but he has been hampered by injuries for the second straight year, and this had a negative effect on offensive consistency. Davis and fullback Matt Bernstein were both injured in the last regular season game, but are expected to play. With the veteran offensive line the Badgers ran for an average of 170 plus yards per outing, which surprisingly is the worst since 1995. You can see that to be successful, Wisconsin must run the football.

The Badgers have a senior dominated defensive line, and in the nine wins allowed only "9" points per outing. The star of this group is Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, Erasmus James who had a sack a game for the first seven before suffering an ankle injury in game eight. The Badger secondary is competent, but significantly shorter than the taller Bulldogs, which could prove to be an achilles heel. Georgia's QB David Greene surpassed Peyton Manning's record as the winningest QB in SEC history with a 41-10 record as a starter. Even more important,

Greene is 15-2 ATS when playing away in unfamiliar surroundings. He did suffer an injury to the thumb on his throwing hand in the season finale against Georgia Tech, but will start for the Bulldogs. Georgia's leading running back Danny Ware (631 yds. 5 yds/c) broke his hand vs. GT and is listed as questionable for the bowl. His backup Thomas Brown with 764 yards will start in his place. Georgia has the best receiving corps in the SEC, as both starting WR and TE earned first team all conference recognition. We should mention TE Leonard Pope is 6-7 253 and presents a huge target for Greene.

Both clubs have strong defensive teams, with the edge going to the Badgers at # 5 over the Bulldogs which we rank at # 15. Strong defense points to a relatively low scoring game, but RED ZONE SPORTS sees this differently. Mark Richt and Georgia are 6-1 ATS in their last seven bowl appearances and know how to score points. Our staff of analysts see this as a game that if and when the Badgers score it will long sustained drives, while the the Bulldogs strike quickly and decisively through the air. Look for Georgia to put seven and eight in the box and force Wisconsin to throw the football. Stick with RED ZONE SPORTS and take Georgia to lay the points cover and win New Year's day.
