COLLEGE BASKETBALL This is one of those games your experts at RED ZONE SPORTS look for each and every week. Our regular followers know we love the underdog and in this case we have a doggie that will make a run at the Bearcats. This is a Red Hawk team that returns four starters from a squad that won 18 last year, and already has wins over Purdue and on the road convincingly at Xavier. They are 5-2 SU at the time of this writing, and more importantly 5-1 ATS. This has been one of the stronger programs year in and year out in the MAC Conference, and though they don’t have the star power of a Wally Szczerbiak, they have a point guard Chet Mason who has had two triple doubles already this season. With the mixture of four outstanding freshmen to the returning four starters you have the makings of a champion in the always tough MAC. Purdue eventually had to go to a zone to nullify Mason’s quickness and penetration, and allowed Danny Horace to light them up from the perimeter.
The Cincy Bearcats on the other hand are off to another fast start at 9-0 for the third year in a row, but are only 3-2-1 ATS. This team has the same problems the last three Cincinnati clubs have had, the inability to score with any regularity. If they do not create points off their defense and them excellent man to man and zone pressure, at times they struggle to put points on the board. They have no true center, and a freshman point guard, but power forward Jason Maxiell will be a Conference USA first teamer and probable NBA selection. Look for Miami veteran coach Charlie Coles to mix the defenses, and play some zone to keep the ball out of Maxiell’s hands. Ladies and Gentleman we love this game and Miami with excellent guard play to handle the pressure.
