    Some "EZ" Analysis

    NY @ Port 2-17-03

-The line on this one opened at Port -10 and
195 in some shops early on. Now....I see it
at Port -9 and 196 commonly from book to book.

-NY laid it to a Shaqless LAL team last night
with a HUGE game out of Allen Houston scoring
53 points in 43 minutes of play.

-Does that come back and bite Chaney's team
    tonight??

-To me either Vegas set this line too high at
Port -10 to start with...or..."early money" sure
seems to be seeing a different situation coming
into this tilt than I do!

-Here's what I don't like about the Knicks
    tonight:

*Heavy minutes by Houston who was in a "zone"
last night scoring all but 64 of the team's
points....by himself. What will he have left
    for the 4th period tonight!

*This is a 3rd game in 4 days (all on the road)
    for the Knicks.

*Knicks play tonight in a back-to-back situation
against a Blazer team at home with one days rest!

*A Knicks team coming in giving up 108.8 ppg
    in their last 5....albeit they've scored 110.8
to win 3 of these 5.

*Looking ahead the Knicks have another road
    game against Seattle on Wednesday.....while
the Blazers get to host a home game with GS
    on Wednesday.

-With all that being said.....the thing I
find most disturbing about this matchup for
the Knicks is that....yes they have scored
over 100 in their last 7...but against who??

    *117 LAL
    *116 Pho
    *107 GS
    *109 LAL
    *105 LAC
    *100 Mil
    *108 Mem
(Not one defensive minded team in the bunch!)

    And 8 games ago:
*80 @ Mia against a team that actually plays d

-Tonight the Knicks face a Blazer team that has
    only allowed:

    *92' ppg on the season
    *92 ppg at home
*97' ppg in their last 5
(Seems to me a bit more d than the Knicks have
been used to in their last 7...and...you see what
happened when they faced a defense 8 games ago!)

-IMHO.....this sets up and looks like Vegas is
wanting NY money with a "line-of-nine"!!

-Last time these teams met in NY on Jan. 5th....the
Blazers won by 3 (92-89). In that game Houston
scored 29 and even though that was 7 above his
seasonal average of 22......it's far short of the
53 he hit last night. I believe he "cools off"
just a tad from last night's scoring effort.

-Spree seems "distracted" by all the trade talk
rumors. He looked totally "out-of-it" in their
last home game against the Warriors scoring only
12 pts...before Chaney finally removed his useless
carcass from the floor with about 3 minutes left
in the game! Since that "zombie like" GS game
Spree hasn't exactly been on fire:

    *17 @ Pho
    *14 @ LAL last night

-Portland on the other hand....has only 2 losses
in their last 7 games.....and.....those are the
only 2 where they allowed the opposition to score
    100+ ppg (Boston and SAN).

-NY's defense has been horrid giving up 100+ in 6
of their last 7 games. In fact.....they've allowed
an average of 110 ppg in their last 4 tilts!!

-I just see a "mis-match" between these two teams
    looking at their O vs D....and D vs O.

-Can NY cover the +9 tonight....absolutely....should
Portland not come with a "fire-in-the-belly" tonight.

-But when I decided to take a side in this game....I
had to come down on the side of the home team:

*with a days rest.....playing a "road weary" team
coming in off a HUGE b-t-b game and a "super-human"
    effort by their best player

*a home team that is only allowed 92 ppg @ home
tipping the ball against a Knicks team that hasn't
faced a DECENT defense in 7 games

*a home team averaging 100+ in their last 5 (two
of which were SAN and Mia) against this leaky NY
defense that doesn't compare to the Spurs or Heat.

*tired Knick legs should be a factor late in this
one.....and NY has recently shown the kind of defense
they play.....even with fresh legs over their last 7!!

-Here's hoping Mo Cheeks has his team looking to
bring the Knicks back into REALITY tonight after
a win over a VERY average LAL team minus Shaq.

    Playing Portland -9 x3
