  • Football is 17-3 (85%) - Saturday Winners

Insider Edge Sports – Report For Saturday, September 25th, 2004

Football is still on an absolute roll as we nail another one with Northern Illinois on Friday. We are now 17-3 our last 20 football releases.

Bowling Green Falcons at Northern Illinois Huskies 7:00 PM ET

    Northern Illinois Huskies –1 -101 (2 Units)

The Huskies could be 3-0 right now with tough losses against Maryland and Iowa St. Against Maryland, they were driving but ran out of time as they ended the game on the Maryland 33 yard line. Last week against the Cyclones, they outyarded Iowa St. 402-342 but the defense and special teams of the Cyclones scored 3 touchdowns. Bowling Green is coming off a bye week after playing Oklahoma two weeks ago. Mentally, the Falcons are in better shape right now but this game is in DeKalb, where the Huskies just don’t lose.

Northern Illinois needed to defeat the Falcons last season to keep their MAC hopes alive but it didn’t happen. Now it’s time to return the favor. A win here almost assures the game against Toledo in November will have title implications. All 5 games between now and then are no need for concern so it is time to focus on the present. In 2002, host Northern Illinois knocked off previously unbeaten Bowling Green, 26-17, before an electrified Huskie Stadium crowd of 25,822. They are used to these situations and a Friday night game will make this place even more electrified. “I know it’s different being that it’s a Friday night game, but this is Bowling Green on ESPN,” Novak said. “This is the game of the season for our team and our university, and we need our fans to be out there with their ThunderSticks, screaming and yelling.” The Huskies were left out of the bowl picture last season despite 10 wins. The reason the Huskies were left standing at the door - a pair of losses in the Mid-American Conference. Forget the victories over the Universities of Maryland and Alabama plus Iowa State University. The goal at the beginning of this season was to win the conference games and that starts tonight. "We could easily be 3-0 or 0-3," Northern Illinois head coach Joe Novak said. "But those games prepared us and helped us. We would've liked to win all three games, but the conference is what matters. They're (BGSU) one of the premier teams in our division. This is an extremely important game."

Signs are everywhere around Huskie Stadium indicating practice is closed all week, a departure from the normally always-accessible approach. The status of Huskies quarterback Josh Haldi might not been known until near game time but early indications are that he will make the start. Haldi has been sidelined for all but one series of the season since he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot. They also rested other injured regulars in hopes of avoiding last year's late rash of injuries during the conference season. The Huskies should have success since the Falcons secondary is giving up 258 yards per game. On the other side of the ball, in a defense where everything revolves around the safety position, Huskies defensive coordinator Denny Doornbos knows his defense is in good hands with a player like Ray Smith looking over it. The defense may be young, but they gained a lot of experience last season with the number of injuries that hit the unit. The secondary is the strength and against a good passing offense, their play will be key. “It still hurts after last season’s loss,” Smith said. “We got embarrassed last year on national television, but this is a new year and hopefully this year we will get the chance to embarrass them. All I know is that it’s gonna be electric out there.”

Overall, we have now won 11 of the last 13 days and we will keep it going on Saturday. Today and tonight, we have 6 NCAA Football Winners! If you haven’t jumped on the money train yet, the only question is why? Since we are fully monitored, we can’t even make this stuff up.

Inside The Boxscores - NCAA Week 3

Detailed Game Writeups with every football play we release. We don’t throw darts like most and we prove why.

We have started the NFL 9-2 after the two weeks and a lot of that can be attributed to our offseason hard work. We have uncovered some incredible systems that go into our handicapping. Please note that these are systems and not useless trends.

Taking our NFL Insider Power™ Systems, we concluded that combining 5 of our top systems gave us a 2003 winning percentage of 66.4%. The record ended 71-36 and while that is outstanding, it is a lot of games to be playing on a weekly basis. An average of 6.3 games per week to be exact. Playing too many games can be the death of a gambler so we decided to tighten the systems by using a minimum z-rating which in turn would give us less plays overall but would in turn be much stronger.

The results once again are remarkable. Tightening our 5 strongest systems gives us an even better 71.4% winning percentage while playing much less games (67 – less than 4 per week). Decreasing the games lessens the risk but our ROI actually increases by over 16%. The difference in profit ended up being only $100 based on $1100 bets. There were just 3 losing weeks out of 17 total weeks in the regular season.

    Regular Systems Run – 71W-36L 66.4%

    Investment $117,700 – Return $31,400 = ROI 26.7%

    Tightened Systems Run – 50W-17L 74.6%

    Investment $73,700 – Return $31,300 = ROI 42.5%

These numbers look way to good to be true so it is possible 2003 was a very “lucky” year for the systems. In order to find out, we went back 4 more years through 1999 and crunched the same Insider Power™ Systems in the tighter version. What did we find? Much of the very same success.

    1999 50-20 71.4%
    2000 48-23 67.6%
    2001 59-15 79.7%
    2002 61-20 75.3%

Only in 2000 did we receive a ROI under 30% while the total ROI for the 5-year span was a generous 40.9%!

    1999 Investment $77,000 – Return $28,000 = ROI 36.4%
    2000 Investment $78,100 – Return $22,700 = ROI 29.1%
    2001 Investment $81,400 – Return $42,500 = ROI 52.2%
    2002 Investment $89,100 – Return $39,000 = ROI 43.8%

    5-year Investment $399,300 – Return $163,500 = ROI 40.9%

We are ecstatic at these findings and the best thing about it is that there are no judgment calls on the games – they either qualify or they don’t. The ones that do qualify will receive many more lookovers based on our other handicapping techniques such as injuries, weather and statistics. The remaining systems come into play when deciding on unit values.

Hopefully we have your attention now. Our Preseason Football Package gets all of these winners through the Super Bowl, which also includes the NFL Preseason, the NCAA Football Season, the remaining MLB Season and the start of the NBA and NCAA Hoops Seasons. All for only $299. Come and join our big group of members that will reap the benefits of these sensational NFL Insider Power™ Systems!!

Temple Owls at Toledo Rockets 7:00 PM ET

    Toledo Rockets –7.5 –103 (2 Units)

Toledo is finally in the win column after getting their doors blown in at Minnesota and Kansas. The defense is still a concern but coming back home for their season opener should give them a jolt right out of the gate. The schedule is ridiculously easy until November, so the Rockets have to use every game possible to improve everything about its defense.

Temple looks to be heading in the same direction as last year when the team won just one game on the season. They got their first win against 1-AA Florida A&M last Saturday which snapped a nine-game losing streak dating to October 11th of last year. This win might be good for confidence but it was not a win against a solid program. Florida A&M has dealt with adversity the last several weeks. Practices have been canceled because of hurricanes, and several players have been suspended for violating NCAA academic-eligibility rules. Against more quality competition, the Owls weren't able to get anything going against Virginia and Maryland when the game was still in question. QB Walter Washington is a great athlete but he has no other weapons around him so Toledo can focus on the running game and hawking him the whole game. Their defense is a 4-4 alignment so they set up well against the spread offense that Temple runs. They also get the extra guy in the box to watch Washington.

Last week against Eastern Michigan, Bruce Gradkowski finally looked like the quarterback that all of the hype has been about as he hit his first 14 passes in the game and finished 22-of-27 for 338 yards and three touchdowns. Even with the team struggling during the first tow games, he has played pretty consistent. He has completed 56-of-85 passes for 755 yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions through three games. Toledo’s 542 yards of offense vs. the Eagles was its most since the Rockets had 685 yards vs. Buffalo on Nov. 1 of last year. Toledo head coach Tom Amstutz said that in Saturday night’s game, he will need to see Gradkowski and the rest of his offense continue to perform at the level they achieved in that third quarter against Eastern Michigan. “The change with the offense up there started with the offensive line,” Amstutz said. “They blocked better, they were tougher, and they took control of the game. I also thought we ran the ball better, and all of those things really help the quarterback perform at the right level.” Even if they do get a comfortable lead, don’t expect the Rockets to let up as they will be looking for consistency the whole game. The Owl pass defense is lousy and won't be able to handle all the great Rocket receivers. The Rockets are 11th in the country in pass efficiency offense while the Owls are 77th against the pass. Another 500 plus day for Toledo is certainly not out of the question. The Glass Bowl is a difficult place for anyone to come in, as the Rockets are 25-1 in their last 26 contests there. Add to that with this being a night game, it will be a tough place for the visitors to get any rhythm going.
