Perfect 6-0 week in the NFL...

Green Bay Packers at Carolina Panthers 9:00 PM ET

      Green Bay +3 +105 (2 Units)

The Panthers will clearly have the emotional edge, as they will be playing their first home game since their Super Bowl and on a Monday night no less. The place will be electric. But if there is one team that can handle this type of atmosphere, it’s the veteran Green Bay team. The Packers went to Chicago last season for the Bears home opener, on Monday night as well, in their new Soldier Field. Granted the Bears and Panthers aren’t the same talent wise, but Green Bay handled the situation perfectly, winning the game with ease.

Even though the Panthers are the reigning NFC Champs, we believe the Packers have advantages in this game on both sides of the ball. First and foremost, this is the type of game that will be won at the line of scrimmage and Green Bay is significantly stronger here. For Carolina, losing four offensive linemen from last year's group will be costly. They haven’t played together much and as a result of Bruce Nelson's hip injury and Adam Meadows' sudden retirement, the Panthers are searching for answers on the right side of their line. The question marks on the line are not a good thing for a team that relies on running the football. Or protecting their quarterback for that matter. Jake Delhomme is coming off a great season and he is proving to be one of the better quarterbacks in the league but the Panthers passing offense is by no means explosive. The Packers were 10th against the run and 23rd against the pass last season so their weakness is obvious. But Carolina won’t be able to take advantage, as the Packers will be able to apply major pressure.

The Packers return all 11 starters from an offense that finished fourth in the NFL so there won’t be any problems here. Carolina does have the best front seven in the league but the Packers have one of, if not the best, offensive lines in the league. All 5 started all 16 games last season. Center Mike Flanagan is one of the best and does a terrific job of helping out, and he should be able to do so against Kris Jenkins, and if Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher play to their potential, they should do a better job than most of keeping Julius Peppers and Mike Rucker in check. Green Bay won’t be pushing the line at will down the field, but they will have success moving the ball, unlike a lot of other teams. The Packers are one of the few teams that can handle the Panthers' front four without having to completely overcompensate in their blocking scheme. Green Bay has a great set of receivers with Donald Driver, Javon Walker and Robert Ferguson. They match up well with the Panthers secondary, Ricky Manning, rookie Chris Gamble and Terrance Shaw. Also, Gamble is a rookie and free safety Colin Branch has never started a game so Brett Favre has the chance for a big game.
