Today we are taking Rutgers +5 1/2 over Michigan St. The first thought is that it is always nice to have a home dog on opening weekend, even though it did not work for us with New Mexico last night. The Scarlet Knights are a much better team than the 5-7 squad that took the field last season, so this game should be highly contested. A deeper look at the Knights show that they have 15 returning starters (8 on def., 7 on off.) and that they were VERY good against the numbers in 2003. Rutgers was 10-1-1 ATS overall last season and 5-1 ATS at home. They are also 9-3 ATS in non conference games over the past three seasons and they are working on revenge from a 44-28 loss in Michigan St last season, though they covered the 18 1/2 point spread. The Spartans are returning 12 starters (7 on def., 5 on off.), but they are coming off of an '03 where they were 6-7 ATS. They are only 5-13 ATS as a favorite over the past three seasons and ended '03 with four losses in their last five games. We see great value in this home dog, with the possible outright win.
We are also taking Oakland (Mulder -$155) against Toronto (Batista). We will come right back with the A's here, with Mark Mulder on the hill. Mulder is 17-4 on the season and the A's are 20-7 over his starts this season. He is also 2-0 over his last three starts and the red hot A's are 9-1 over their last ten games. Miguel Batista is 1-2 with a 5.51 Era over is last three starts to fall to 10-10 on the year. Toronto is just 3-7 over their last ten games and have less wins at home (34) than the A's have on the road (35). We had the A's behind Hudson last night and like this game even better.
We have three more NCAA plays and two more MLB plays for today, plus you can get all of our plays from Saturday through Monday for only $49.95. Do not miss out, especially if you did not cash last weekend, we were #1 in the Foots last season, and we are going to come right back in 2004. www.unclelouspicks.net is the place for winners this Labor Day Weekend.
