  • Seminoles @ HURRICANES

I like the Seminole's chances this year to make a run for the title. They get by Miami Fla in their opener and there's no one stopping them. They'll get revenge in the Bowden Bowl and there's no one on their home slate likely to beat them.

On the Road they'll play the Terapins who have not be able to even keep them game close in Rix's 3 years at QB despite the fact that--other than against Miami and FSU--Ralph's Maryland Squad had been one of the winningest. Plus, Maryland is not the same team this year.

They'll have to get by NC State on the road, but minus Phillip Rivers and playing late in the Season, I doubt FSU will blow it.

If FSU can get a split at Maryland and NC State, they have a shot at the title. With a sweep, they'd be a shoe in.

Of course, all this is built on the premise of them getting by Miami Florida in their opener. I think they do it. In Rix' first year they got hammered, but only because they gave up over 40 points as they did versus the Tarheels that same year. FSU put up 27 in that game.

The following year (2002), FSU again put up 27 only to lose 27-28 on a missed FG as usual. The point is that Rix has been capable enough to move the ball.

Last year FSU collaped at home coming out flat after blowing out their prior two opponents by a combined score of 103-14. No chance of a letdown this year as these two meet in their first game.

Bowden has not lost his opener since 1989, but the Hurricanes are not prone to lose their openers either.

The Hurricanes don't lose much at home and have only lost one home game under Coker's 3-year tenure (Vols). But if anyone can do it, it would be FSU and Bobby Bowden who use to dominate this series once a upon a time.

Losing twice to the Hurricanes last year I look for the Seminoles to win this time around with Rix in his Senior year and Miami having lost a few key players.

Dont' get me wrong, the Hurricanes are ALWAYS stacked with talent. But I think FSU sneaks by them here before Miami completely gels without Winslow and crew.

In fact, I"ll get a little bolder. I don't think they just "sneak" by them, I think the Seminoles win this game by double digits.

      Mornin' Tony,

In know it sounds wierd, but in a bit of irony, the 'Canes are actually more prone to lose their home openers than home games any other time of the year.

In the last 10 years they have played 61 home games, losing only 11 times. They are 50-11 in all home games.

In their "virtual" home opener they are only 6-4, leaving them with a 44-7 home record otherwise. Two more of those remaing 7 home losses were against Bowden's crew.

Definition of virtual: When their home opener was against Florida A&M, well, there was never CHANCE of them losing that game.

Miami FL is only 6-4 in their home opener vs lined teams.

Miami Fl is currently a 1-point fave and will more than likely be a 3-pt fave by gametime. In their last 10 head-to-head meetings, the Hurricanes won by more than 3 only twice.

Once in 2001 in Rix's Freshmen year and then last year in the rain bowl when the Semi's let down after two big blowouts. When playing IN MIAMI, Fsu has not lost by more than a FG in four tries during that same span.

FSU is going to win this game, and I don't expect it to be close...

I am a Canes fan so I have trouble going against them. But if what you say is true..............I might have to listen. I am not sold with Berlin as QB, they say he has looked great but he always has looked great, just never played great. Now their blue chip recurit is out for two months with knee surgery. Canes look banged up but they are deep and so is FSU. GL!!

I like this game a lot; but then again I liked FSU a lot in their bowl game last year and Miami pulled it out. I really don't think the Canes are gonna pull it out this time.

FSU has a great shot at the title this year if they get past Miami. If they don't, they've got to sweep NC State and Maryland in those two road games in order to be eligible.

Coker inherited a very talented team, and they are still talented and deep. But Miami took some hits in the draft and they might not gel right off the bat. That might explain why 16 of the Hurricane's last 23 losses have come on the front end of the Season.

I don't play hunches, but FSU is a solid ball club and I've got a very strong feeling that they are going to hand Miami a nice "Welcome to the ACC" package on September 6th. They're gonna send a message right off the bat: This conference belongs to the Seminoles, and NOBODY is gonna march in their first year and take center stage.

This whole "Miami is the new kings of the ACC" thing is hype. I'm not taking anything away from them, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Hurricanes don't win this game for the next 3 years, now that the game has even more significance.

I'm still not sold on Coker. Bowden is the real deal, but until Larry Coker can take a team from the bottom up, I'm not sold. I think an average high school coach could've taken the Canes to the Championship in 2001--they were that good.

Miami is not going to enter into the ACC their first game, their first year, and dethrone the long-running champs of that conference. Just dont' see it. I think this game would belong to FSU even if the Hurricanes were in tact from last season. With their losses in the draft, well, I'll take a guess...
