    FLORIDA MARLINS HOST MILWAUKEE BREWERS

We have a disappointing defending World Champion Marlins mired in third place in the NL East, hosting the Milwaukee Brewers who are in fourth place in the NL Central behind the St Louis Cardinals. The real difference is that Cards are running away with the Central and the whole Eastern Division is really pretty mediocre. RED ZONE SPORTS sees the difference in this game the performance of Marlin starter Ismael Valdez. Valdez still has an electric sinking fastball that he still throws in the low 90’s. To his credit he has always had the ability to throw strikes, work quickly and has a nice move to first for a right hand pitcher. Because of his sinker he induces more grounders than fly balls by almost 30%. This also provides the opportunity for his infield to turn more double plays behind him to end potential jams. Valdez is 9-6 with a 5.53 ERA but the real telltale sign is he is 6-2 and 3.89 when pitching at home. The Brewers have an ever dependable closer Juan Benitez in the bullpen, who has appeared in 44 games with 33 saves, which is second in the National League.

Your boys at the RED ZONE say take the Marlins who are much better at home than the Brewers are on the road. Milwaukee averages almost one run less per game than Florida, and has struggled when situation dictated going to the bullpen early. Marlins win Saturday
