Northern Illinois +10.5 (2 Units)
MAC division leaders square off as the Huskies travel to play their 7th road game in their last 11 games. Northern Illinois has won 6 of their last 7 games, four of those coming on the road. Their last 2 losses were each by one point so this team could easily be 9-0 in their last 9. Kent is one of the top teams in the MAC once again this season with a 10-1 conference record and are 17-2 overall. They have won 9 in a row and 11 of their last 12 but of those 11 wins, only 2 have come by double-digits and only 1 by more than 10 points. The average margin of victory is only 6 points in those games showing that team knows how to win but is not able to put teams away. Both teams are red hot offensively, shooting over 50% and 45% from three-point range. However the Huskies have been playing tougher defense, allowing 45% shooting compared to 48% for Kent. They have allowed just 27% from behind the arc while Kent has allowed 33%. As a matter of fact, Kent’s three-point shooting defense has been a trouble spot as they are allowing 38% on the season and 42% at home. Northern Illinois has solid, veteran guard play with P.J. Smith and Jay Bates, both seniors, which plays a big factor when going on the road. F Marcus Smallwood will go up against the Golden Flashes best player in F Antonio Gates and that matchup could go either way. The Huskies come in with a lot of confidence and with Kent not having the killer instinct as of late, look for a close game that should come down to the last few minutes.
