Chicago Cubs (Maddux) at St. Louis Cardinals (Marquis) 8:10 PM ET
St. Louis Cardinals (Marquis) -129 (2 Units)
The former Atlanta teammates will square off for the third time in 2004, with the Cubs emerging victorious in each of the first two occasions, which bodes well for St. Louis here. Jason Marquis can set his career high in wins before the All-Star break. That's largely because of things like health, opportunity and a good offense, but he's also having a strong year on the mound. He is unbeaten in his last six starts (5-0), and St. Louis is 10-6 in his starts this season. Greg Maddux has a 7.31 ERA and 1.75 WHIP over his last 3 starts. The Redbirds have won their last eight home games, their longest string at Busch Stadium since an eight-game streak from Sept. 8-30, 2001. If it comes down to late innings, St. Louis has a huge edge. Cardinals relievers have a 2.05 ERA over the past 30 days and its 3.28 bullpen ERA is No. 2 in the big leagues. No team has fewer relief losses than the Cards (seven).
