The Reds only have five more wins then the Mets so far this season, do not be fooled by the line, this matchup is not as much "night and day" difference as the moneyline might suggest. The Reds will be sending up Jose Acevedo in this one, he is now 4-6 on the season with an ever rising 5.30era thus far. Over his 86 innings of work, Acevedo has given up a whopping 52 runs already, the really BIG shocker is that 18 of those runs came courtesy of the longball. Cincy does not support Acevedo well at all, in fact they have won just once over his last five starts. Over those five game the Reds lost 17-8 against Oakland and they lost 10-7 against Philadelphia. Acevedo has given up 8 runs off of 16 hits his last 14 innings, he's prime time for a losing night here.
The Mets bats haven't been lighting up much this season but they should come on gangbusters in this Thursday niter against the Reds. See, the Mets are sending up Al Leiter to start this one, the veteran hurler is now 3-2 on the season with a very attractive 2.34era to this point as well. Leiter has given up just 18 runs over 69 innings this season, he's only given up 7 homeruns over the year. The Mets are now 4-1 over the last five starts from Leiter, that includes the team giving up a grand total of just 13 runs over that time for a measly average of not even 3rpg against. Did you know that 2 of the last 5 Leiter starts had him pitching a perfect 5 inning performance? In fact, Leiter has given up just 7 runs over his last 29 innings of work.
