Cincinnati Reds (Lidle) at St. Louis Cardinals (Carpenter) 8:10 PM ET

St. Louis Cardinals (Carpenter) –1.5 +131 (2 Units)

St. Louis is turning things around at home as they are now 13-6 their last 18 after a dismal 3-9 start. The Cardinals have won four straight and 13 of 16 to move a season-best 12 games above .500. Cory Lidle has been up and down all season long and right now he is in a definite down swing. Lidle will try to even his record after a rough start against the Indians as the Reds open their season-series against the Cardinals. That game against the Indians followed his worst start of the season, a 9-run debacle at Oakland. All 4 of his recent starts have come on the road and in 3 of those he allowed 5 or more runs. He has a 5.98 ERA on the road this season and that balloons to 8.34 over the last 4. Chris Carpenter had a rough start at Texas last week, but he's not the first pitcher to suffer that fate. Otherwise he's been lights out and the best pitcher on the Cardinals' staff since mid-April. He isn’t used to pitching at home as he has only gone 3 times at Busch Stadium this season but he has made the most of it. He has a 2.79 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP and a .197 BAA at home. He allowed only 2 runs on 7 hits over his last 2 home games, covering 14.1 innings. Despite pitching his last 5 games on the road, he has allowed more than 3 runs only once. The Cardinals are 8-1 in his last 9 starts with his last game at Texas being the only defeat. Cincinnati is dead last in the National League with a team road ERA of 6.04 and a 1.68 WHIP. They have allowed 377 hits, which is over 50 hits more than the 2nd place San Francisco Giants.
