Oakland Athletics (Zito) at St. Louis Cardinals (Morris) 8:10 PM ET
St. Louis Cardinals (Morris) –121 (2 Units)
Oakland has scored an amazing 79 runs in their last 7 games (11.29 rpg), scoring in double digits in 5 of their last 6. All of those were at home however and it hasn’t been the same story on the road. Their 23-10 record at home is the best in baseball behind the Yankees but they are only a .500 team away from home and their scoring comes way down. Barry Zito takes the hill for Oakland and while he has been strong on the road of late, the competition has been suspect. Zito's best starts this season came against Cleveland and Toronto, both sub-.500 teams. His last 3 road starts have come against the Indians, Kansas City and Detroit, a combined 81-101. Against the Yankees, Angels and Reds, all of them legitimate contenders, like the Cardinals, he's 2-2 after allowing 23 earned runs in 27 innings (7.66 ERA). St. Louis returns home after a somewhat successful 4-3 road trip. Their 13-15 home record remains puzzling but their offense is playing their best they have all season and they have won 7 of their last 11 at home. The offense has scored in double digits in 3 of their last 5 games. Matt Morris has started 4 of his last 5 games on the road and coming back to Busch won’t hurt. He only has a 4.04 ERA at home this season but his last 3 starts at home have been impressive as he is 2-0 with a 1.94 ERA. The Cards are 3-0 in those games. Morris has held opposing hitters to a .247 average and struck out 45, while walking just 26 in 88.2 innings.
