Arizona Diamondbacks (Daigle) at San Francisco Giants (Rueter) 10:05 PM ET

    San Francisco (Rueter) –1.5 +139 (2 Units)

After a rough start to the season that saw his ERA hit 7.23, Kirk Rueter has been much better of late. Over his last 3 starts, he has a 3.00 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP but he has only one win to show for it. The Giants lost the other two games by scores of 4-3. It’s interesting to note that these last 3 games have been the only 3 games that Rueter has thrown over 100 pitches this season making you wonder if there wasn’t something bothering him early on. For his first win, he blanked a tough Reds lineup over eight innings in Cincinnati on May 7. His two starts since then have been average, but in each, he looked far more like the pitcher of old, getting opposing hitters to beat the ball into the ground. Pitching coach Dave Righetti said that early this season Rueter was dropping his arm to the side too much, particularly out of the stretch. Rueter and Righetti have spent a lot of time in the bullpen trying to correct the pitcher's arm angle and believe his last three starts are proof he is succeeding. The Diamondbacks are putrid against lefties this season. Arizona is 4-10 against left-handed starters this season and it just so happens that 2 of those 4 wins were when Randy Johnson was the opposing pitcher. As a team they are batting .211 for the season and .219 on the road against lefties. Casey Daigle hits the road for the 4th time this season after he lasted just 3.1 innings in his last start at Florida. He has a 7.82 ERA away from home this season and he is lasting only 4 innings per road start. That is not a good stat considering that the Diamondbacks bullpen in next to last in all of baseball and dead last in the National League with a 5.17 ERA. They have allowed 29 home runs, second to Cleveland and they have issued 83 free passes, easily the most of any team in baseball. The league bullpen average is 57.8. The Giants had just their third three-game winning streak over the weekend and they scored more than 4 runs in each game, something they didn’t do in their previous 8 games and 12 of 14. It’s time for the Giants to start putting a run together at home.
