Anaheim Angels (Lackey) at Toronto Blue Jays (Miller) 7:05 PM ET
Toronto (Miller) –1.5 +166 (2 Units)
Toronto returns home after a rough trip to Boston and they hope to get things going at Skydome where their success has been limited. Even though they were swept in Boston, the first two games of the series could have gone either way and even with the sweep, the attitude is still there. The Angels meanwhile are one of the best road teams in all of baseball with a 14-8 record. They are also on a much better recent run than the Blue Jays but those runs do not involve tonight’s starters. After a good end of April and beginning to May, John Lackey has been just average since, allowing 9 earned runs over his last 11.2 innings of work. Worse yet is when he gets out on the road. In 4 road starts this season, he has a 6.38 ERA compared to his 3.42 ERA at home. He also has a 1.50 WHIP while opposing batters are hitting .302 against him. Justin Miller meanwhile has been the most consistent of the Toronto starters this season and like Lackey, he is a much better pitcher at home. He has only started one road game this season but he has thrown 4 at home, going 1-0 with a 2.88 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. Despite Toronto only being 1-3 in those games, he has kept them in the game as witnessed by their 2 one-run losses. Both teams traveled after their Sunday games but the Angels have the big disadvantage by coming all the way from the west coast and losing 3 hours in the process. Anaheim holds the **** in all stat categories in this matchup but that is something we need to look past here, as this is a good spot for Toronto to bust out. Of their 17 wins, 14 have been by more than 2 runs with those wins coming by 4.4 rpg.
