A win by the Shockers moves them within a game of first place Creighton in the MVC. The Salukis will be no easy task to handle for Wichita St. but they are a very average 4-4 on the road and this is the start of a three game road trip for the upcoming week. The Shockers have lost just twice in 9 home games, both of which came against two Big 12 teams in Oklahoma St. and Kansas St. and have won their last 5. Southern Illinois is allowing 47% shooting and 49% three-point shooting on the road, yielding over 75 ppg in their 8 away games. On the other side, the Shockers allow 42% shooting and only 37% three-point shooting in giving up just 64 ppg. Offensively, both teams shoot fairly even but Wichita has a decisive advantage at the free throw line 74%-65%. They also have an advantage on the glass grabbing nearly 7 more rpg while the Salukis are even on the boards. Southern Illinois escaped with a 5 point win on their home floor in the first meeting back on January 15th. Southern Illinois had a 61-46 lead but the Shockers used a 17-4 run to cut the deficit to 65-63 with 1:46 remaining but just ran out of time. They hurt themselves by shooting just 4-12 from behind the arc, a number that should improve on their home floor. Look for some payback from the Shockers as they continue to play solid on their home court and take care of the Salukis.
