4/28/04: Today’s Free Play from Prime Sports Picks
ANAHEIM ANGELS (Colon) –163 at DETROIT TIGERS (Maroth) +153:
MLB - 7:05PM (EST)
Anaheim has now won 5 in a row and they’re doing it with the bats, averaging nearly 8 runs per game over that stretch. The Tigers are still playing well and putting runs on the board themselves, averaging nearly 6 runs per game at home.
Today’s game should be a good one between two of this year’s better starters. Bartolo Colon has been dominating this season going (3-1) with a 2.33 ERA. In his only loss he still pitched well enough to win allowing only 3 runs over 8 innings, but his team failed to provide him with any offense. For the Tigers, Mike Maroth will take the mound. Maroth has really turned things around in 2004 going (2-1) with a 3.86 ERA, after losing 21 games last season.
The game’s line appears to be significantly undervaluing the Tigers and Maroth at home. While this is not the strongest play on the board, it is certainly a serious value play –the reward outweighing the risk. With a solid effort, Detroit has a really good chance of pulling out the victory at home here on Wednesday night.
Best of luck,
-Drew
