Arizona Diamondbacks (Johnson) at San Diego Padres (Peavy) 10:05 pm EST
Arizona (Johnson) –112 (2 Units)
Randy Johnson is certainly not the same dominating pitcher of old, but he is still an upper echelon hurler plus he has the Padres’ number. Getting Johnson at this price is a gift no matter how slow of a start he has gotten off to. He is 12-2 in 17 career starts against San Diego with a 2.17 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. The Padres starters are hitting only .215 against Johnson (26-121). Johnson had only one bad inning in his last outing and that cost him. He s still throwing hard, topping out at 97 mph, but control was an issue. “I don’t know the last time I walked four batters in one inning,” Johnson said. “It hurt me. That gave them momentum. I felt I was pitching well, but that inning gave them a chance to put something together.” Jake Peavy is a good young pitcher for the Padres and he has gotten off to a solid start despite the Padres losing both games. He has posted a 1.46 ERA but he is getting hit at a good clip as opposing batters are hitting .283. Peavy does not have a good track record against the Diamondbacks, as he is 1-5 in his 6 starts with a 12.30 ERA and 2.16 WHIP. He has allowed a whopping 36 earned runs in 26.1 innings. He was 0-3 with a 13.5 ERA last season. The Padres have hit only 2 home runs in the first 6 games to break in their new ballpark.
