Insider Edge Sports – Report For Wednesday, April 14, 2004
We split our plays on Tuesday as Oakland blew leads of 6 and 4 runs and won by only one run. We still show a profit however as San Diego –1.5 +141 easily comes in. Our big play for the night was washed out. For Wednesday, we have 5 MLB releases including another 3 Unit TOP PLAY. The first game goes off at 2:05 pm EST this afternoon. As always, the entire card is guaranteed.
#1 Documented in NCAA Hoops! We ended the season +36 units, finishing 1st at Wisetracking and we would have been first at Procappers if unit values were used, since all games are counted as just one unit there. Overall, a great season.

Seattle Mariners (Garcia) at Anaheim Angels (Ortiz) 10:05 pm EST
Seattle (Garcia) –104 (2 Units)
Facing Anaheim was one of the very few bright spots for Freddy Garcia last season. Garcia had his worst season ever last year and he recorded his lowest win total in 3 seasons. He did however flourish against the Angels, where he picked up 25% of his wins. He finished 3-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 1.04 WHIP in 4 starts. Seattle lost the other start in extra innings. Garcia is 10-2 with a 2.24 ERA and 1.07 ratio in 17 career starts against the Angels. Garcia looked like his old self as he went 7 innings and allowed only 4 hits and 0 runs in his first game this season against Anaheim. But the Mariners' bullpen surrendered five runs in the ninth inning of a 5-1 loss. "Last year is over, that's in the past," Garcia said. "I'm trying to move on. This year is really important for me (because of free agency). I've got to improve my numbers and help this team." He even held the Angels trio of Tim Salmon, David Eckstein and Adam Kennedy, who each entered the game hitting .300 or better against Garcia, to two hits in 11 at-bats. Garcia underwent two ear surgeries during the off-season and is a whole new pitcher. Ramon Ortiz had an up and down season last year going 8-8 with a 5.24 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in his 17 home starts. He didn’t get out of the 3rd inning in his first start this season as he allowed 7 runs on 9 hits against the Rangers. Inconsistency has been a career-long trademark of Ortiz, who can look like Pedro Martinez one start and Mike Maroth the next; who can be cruising with a shutout through six innings and then give up four runs in the seventh. Ortiz prevailed in a spring training battle for the final spot in the rotation but he could lose that spot very soon. For the Mariners to have any success against the Angels, they'll have to keep Anaheim's hitters in the park. In the first series, the Angels clubbed six home runs but it was Garcia who was the lone starter to not get hit around.
