Colorado Rockies (Jennings) at Arizona Diamondbacks (Webb) 9:35 pm EST

    Arizona (Webb) –1.5 +100 (2 Units)

We like the Diamondback to bounce back on Tuesday with their solid young pitcher Brandon Webb. Webb came out of nowhere last year in his rookie season to win 10 games and put up a 2.84 ERA and 1.15 ratio. He slipped some in September, which was due to the youngster simply being tired. He faced the Rockies 3 times last season, going 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA. However, throw out a bad September outing in Coors Field and the other two starts show a 2-0 record with a 2.57 ERA. Colorado hit just .250 against Webb in those 3 starts. Jason Jennings has started 3 games in Arizona and has not gotten out alive. He is 0-2 with a 9.60 ERA and a 2.53 WHIP. Arizona starters are lighting him up with a .383 average in 60 career at bats. In 6 total starts against Arizona, Jennings has posted a 6.28 ERA and 1.95 WHIP. The potent Arizona offense should wake up after Estes shut them down yesterday.

        Hey Warrior,

Here is a sample of betting the run line vs. the money line. A lot of people balk at laying 1.5 runs in baseball but it’s a much better investment than laying –200 or more on a favorite. Taking a look at the 2003 season, there were 424 favorites of –200 or more (it’s a relatively small sample, but it makes its point). If someone bet $100 on the favorite in every one of those games, they would have lost $4,770. If someone had laid 1.5 runs in each of those games instead of playing the money line, they would have lost $2,055 (roughly – the run line odds were estimated). Here is the breakdown:

Of the 424 games, the favorite won 282 and lost 142.

Of those 142 losses, the money line would have cost -$32,970 while laying 1.5 runs would have cut that roughly in half -$16,485 (again, estimating run line). This favors the run line bettor by $16,485.

Of the 282 wins, there were 63 one run games, meaning the money line player would have won $6,300 while the run line player would have lost -$7,470. This favors the money line bettor by $13,770.

Of the 282 wins, there were 219 decided by two or more runs. The money line player and the run line player would have each made $21,900.

33.49% of the total games were outright losers while only 22.34% of the total wins were by just one run. That’s an investment that is much less risky.
