Insider Edge Sports – Report For Tuesday, April 6, 2004

We split on Monday as Barry Bonds killed us with the Astros ruining a very good night. On the plus side, the Huskies win wire-to-wire capping off a great NCAA basketball season. We ended the season +36 units, finishing 1st at Wisetracking and we would have been first at Procappers if unit values were used, since all games are counted as just one unit there. Overall, a great season. For Tuesday, we have 5 winners – 2 in the NBA and 3 in MLB including our American League Game of the Week. First game goes at 1:05 pm EST this afternoon. As always, the entire card is guaranteed.

San Diego Padres (Peavy) at Los Angeles Dodgers (Perez) 10:10 pm EST

Los Angeles (Perez) –115 (2 Units)

This is one pitcher who loves Dodger Stadium. Perez finished last season with a 6-3 record and a 2.73 ERA in 10 home starts. He has made 29 career starts there and he is 14.9 with a 2.72 ERA and a solid 1.04 WHIP. Opponents are hitting just .229 against him. Last season, he hurled 20 quality starts in which he pitched at least six innings and gave up three runs or less, and ended up with six losses and five no decisions in those games. He finished this spring with a 1.73 ERA in 26 innings. Jake Peavy is a good young pitcher for the Padres but he did have a rough spring and he has never shown good stuff on the road. He has a career 5.13 ERA on the road to go along with a very high 1.52 ratio. This spring, he pitched only 17.2 innings and allowed 10 earned runs. His work was scaled back this spring, which could also reduce his ability to work deep into games this month. The Dodgers are coming off an 8-2 loss on Monday even though they out hit the Padres 15-12. The clutch hitting will come around. They left 15 runners on base and hit into three double plays. ``Fifteen hits is a lot of hits to get and only score two runs,'' manager Jim Tracy said. ``We had a number of opportunities to score runs today, and that's the encouraging part. We had guys on base all day long.'' Expect more of the same against the inconsistent Peavy while we expect Perez to shine at home one again.
