San Francisco Giants (Rueter) at Houston Astros (Oswalt) 7:05 pm EST
Houston (Oswalt) –1.5 –110 (2 Units)
The Houston Astros play host to the banged-up Giants for three games before traveling to Milwaukee for a three-game set this week. Roy Oswalt was lights-out during the spring and hopes to continue that here. After getting through spring training completely healthy, though, the Astros are looking for a quick start in front of packed houses celebrating both their return from Florida and the only regular-season visit for Bonds and the Giants. Oswalt was on the disabled list three times last year but he had surgery in the offseason to correct the groin problems. His 2.92 ERA the last three seasons is one of the best in the league. He only has 3 career starts against the Giants, one coming last year. He went 8 innings, allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits and 0 walks. Kirk Rueter had a rough spring, posted close to a 5.00 ERA in 25 IP. He faced Houston only once last season, going 4.1 innings and allowing 5 earned runs on 8 hits. This will be his first start at Minute Maid Park in 3 years. Houston starters are a lifetime .362 (29-80) against Rueter. For the first time that anybody with the Astros can remember, they enter a season in which fans will consider anything but a World Series appearance a failure. High expectations sure but their healthy ace should get it started on Monday.
