New York Knicks -5
The Hawks come to New York with a modest 2-game win streak, their longest since January 10th and 11th. Atlanta has not won three in a row since November 18th when they matched their longest winning streak of the season with a win over Toronto. Atlanta has to be the biggest disappointment in the NBA this season when expectations were so high after they acquired Glenn Robinson to go along with Shareef Abdur-Rahim and Theo Ratliff down low. Kurt Thomas and Othella Harrington have done a good job in the paint and should hold their own on their home floor. The problem with the Hawks has been the backcourt where the Knicks have the big advantage with Allan Houston, Howard Eisley and Latrell Sprewell, even though Sprewell plays the forward position, he is still a threat outside. With Ira Newble on the IR for Atlanta, the Hawks are left with Dion Glover as the starter to go along with the erratic Jason Terry. New York shoots over 38% from behind the arc at home while Atlanta shoots just over 33% on the road. These numbers almost match the three-point shooting output in their first meeting in Atlanta (NY 39% - ATL 30%) in which New York won. While the Knicks are only 13-12 at home, they are 7-3 in their last 10 in New York and Atlanta is a dreadful 3-17 SU and 4-16 ATS on the road. The Knicks are 5-0 ATS as a favorite of 5 or more points while Atlanta is 3-14 ATS as an underdog of 5 or more. New York also fits into a good situation of betting against a team that won their first game of a road trip against the spread (Atlanta defeated Cleveland on Saturday as a 2.5 point dog). Look for the double-digit win tonight by the home team.
