NCAAB - Iowa State Cyclones (-7) over Marquette Golden Eagles
The Cyclones host Marquette Thursday night in the third round of the NIT after downing Florida State by a score of 62-59. The win snapped a 10 game road losing streak for Iowa State and gave them their first win outside of the state of Iowa since February of 2001. With their road woes put aside, the Cyclones return home to Hilton Coliseum for this matchup, a place where they have played very well. They were an incredible 17-1 at home this season.
Iowa State has had a big boost by the play of freshman Curtis Stinson, whose 482 points so far is the second-best scoring total for a freshman in Big 12 history. Stinson, who hails from the Bronx, NY, first made a name for himself in the infamous Rucker Park league in New York City and would love to return home to the Garden with a win in this game. Another reason the Cyclones offense has been so potent has been the contribution of senior guard Jake Sullivan, who ranks fourth on the Big 12 career 3-pointers list with 266 made. This includes 78 from beyond the arc this season.
The Cyclones have averaged 78.6 points per game at home this season while on the defensive end they only allow 68 ppg on their own court. The Golden Eagles, on the other hand, only score 66.9 points per game on the road. Iowa State is 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 while Marquette is an even 5-5 ATS.
The key for Iowa State in this matchup will be to control Marquette guard Travis Diener from running the Golden Eagles offense freely. The Cyclones defense at home has been solid all season and they should continue that trend tonight.
