No. 13 East Tennessee St. Buccaneers vs No. 4 Cincinnati Bearcats 2:45 pm EST
East Tennessee St. +9.5 (2 Units)
East Tennessee State has quietly won 19 of its last 20 games and earned its second straight Southern Conference title. They like to push the ball and force an up-tempo game, which will help them with the Bearcats pressing defense. The Bucs are used to playing the big boys so they won’t be intimidated here. They nearly upset No. 2 seed Wake Forest last year in the first round in a 76-73 loss as a 12 1/2-point underdog. East Tennessee State is going to expose a Cincinnati team that is very suspect in the backcourt. The NCAA tourney is a great event for making stars, and diminutive East Tennessee State point guard Tim Smith is ready to shine. Smith is lightning-quick with the ball and simply makes plays. He's going to be a handful for Cincinnati's Nick and Field Williams to handle. He has scored at least 20 points in five of his six career conference tournament games, and had 22 in last season's loss to Wake Forest. As exciting as Smith is, teammate Zakee Wadood earned Southern Conference Player of the Year honors. The 6-foot-5 senior forward is the Bucs' second-leading scorer, but he's also one of the best defenders in the country. He's the only player in the nation to lead his conference in steals and blocks. That’s impressive. The Bearcats have always been known as big underachievers when it comes to tournament time and while they are saying it will be different this season by not looking past the Bucs, it might not matter. East Tennessee St. is a solid, athletic and experienced team that is bound to give Cincinnati all it can handle. East Tennessee State is 6-1 ATS on a neutral court while Cincinnati is 1-8 ATS away off an under and 1-6 ATS away in March.
