The huge run comes to an end on Friday but we aren’t worried since we own Saturday basketball. We are 31-14 (68.9%) on Saturday’s in college hoops this season. The reason is simple. The Bulldogs remain home after a 5-point loss to Morehead St. on Thursday. The loss dropped them to 3-2 in the OVC but now they face an Eastern Kentucky team that is winless on the road this season. The Colonels are 0-7 and they have lost their road games by an average of 13.1 ppg. While they have played solid teams such as Kentucky and Florida, they have also played the dregs of the country in Jacksonville St., Alabama A&M and Savannah St. Samford ranks 6th in the country in non-conference schedule strength and 100th overall while Eastern Kentucky is ranked 255th in strength of schedule. The Bulldogs had won their previous 9 games at home before the loss on Thursday. Samford is 5th in the country is shooting at 50.5% and 8th in 3-point shooting, hitting 41.4% of their shots from behind the arc. They are the only OVC team shooting over 50% from the floor. Eastern Kentucky is allowing 50.6% shooting on the road and 48.3% in their last 5 games overall. The Bulldogs also lead the league in scoring defense (60.2 ppg) and rebounding defense (28.0 rpg). Samford has greatly improved at the free throw line after a slow start. They have hit 77.7% over their last 4 games to increase their season average to 70.6%, third in the conference. Eastern Kentucky is dead last at 61.2% from the charity stripe. The Colonels are also last in turnovers, averaging 17.1 per game. The Bulldogs should have no problem keeping above their 50% shooting average here and should easily get the win off that disappointing loss on Thursday.
