OKLAHOMA STATE COWBOYS VISIT THE TEXAS LONGHORNS
SATURDAY JANUARY 24 @ 4:00 EST
RED ZONE SPORTS
We have two of the hottest teams in the nation, not just the Big 12 colliding this afternoon at the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Cowboys were ranked #24 in the latest poll and the Longhorns #15 and climbing. OK State is led by Tony Allen averaging 16 points per outing and 5 rebounds, and three year veteran Ivan McFarlin 12.5 ppg. and a team high eight rebounds nightly. They also boast two other double digit scorers in John Lucas contributing 11.7 ppg. and Joey Graham 10.6 ppg. Factor the sizzling 48% three point shooting of Daniel Bobik and you have a potent offense. State is currently 13-2 with big wins over Oklahoma (+21) and on the road at Arkansas by 15. Their only two losses have been to Texas Tech and at BYU, one of the toughest places to play in USA.
Rick Barnes’ Longhorns have won seven straight games including big wins over Wake Forest by 13 and at Missouri Tuesday night. Texas truly has a high octane offensive unit, and is only turning the ball over 10.5 times per game. Freshman sensation P.J. Tucker has stepped in to fill the void left by T.J. Ford going to the NBA this year. I guess it is a must that all outstanding Texas Frosh must have initials for first names. As stated earlier the Horns are sizzling at 88 points per outing, led by Tucker’s 13.5 ppg., veteran Brandon Mouton 13 ppg., veteran Royal Ivey 11 ppg., Brian Boddicker 10 ppg. and Kenny Taylor contributing 9 ppg. Big Brad Buckman just getting over some early season injuries chips in with another 9ppg. Horns have quality wins over Wake and at Providence included in their 12-2 slate. The only two losses are to perennial powers Duke and Arizona.
Texas has shown the ability to win shoot-outs or defensive battles, but would rather assert their will and create an up-tempo flow where their athletes can get out in transition and make plays. Oklahoma State is 4-5 ATS and 0-2 ATS as an away dog. Texas is 6-5 ATS and 5-3 ATS as a home favorite. Horns will be dominant in this one at home against a team that hasn’t covered away this season yet. Take Texas, lay the points and win with the guys from RED ZONE SPORTS!!
