Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles vs. Marquette Golden Eagles 8:00 pm EST

    Southern Miss +10 (2 Units)

Marquette was humbled on Wednesday as they were blasted at home by Cincinnati. The Bearcats scored 24 points off Marquette's season-high 23 turnovers. How they respond after that defeat will play a big part in this game and we feel they will still be showing the effects. Southern Miss has picked up their game recently, defeating Memphis at home and following that up with a tough 1-point loss at St. Louis. It is important to note that this is not a home game for Marquette even though it is being played in Wisconsin. Originally scheduled for Hattiesburg, the game instead will be played at the Resch Center in Green Bay, as part of a weekend college basketball promotion at the facility. Southern Miss is considered the home team in this game and even though Marquette will surely have the fan advantage, it is a court they are not used to. Southern Miss is shooting a solid .452 (346-766) from the field, and an equally good .378 (74-196) from 3-point range. Despite the loss to St. Louis, Golden Eagles head coach James Green said he felt the Eagles gave their best effort of the season. Green said the difference in the game was at the free throw line and in the rebounding statistics. Saint Louis was 13-of-23 from the line, compared to 5-of-7 for Southern Miss, and outrebounded the Eagles 27-20. Two of the Golden Eagles' top scorers were held well below their averages. Gaines had nine points, seven below his team-leading average, and Clement Carter, who averages 10 points, was held scoreless. That is good news for upcoming games. Even though this is a travel disadvantage for the Southern Miss plus they lose a true home game, it may hurt Marquette even more. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday and they would have had an extra day to recover from a physical game against Cincinnati and to prepare for Southern Miss.
