Insider Edge Sports – Friday, January 2, 2004 Report
The New Year starts off a downer as we lost 3 close games yesterday that had chances of winning or at least pushing late, but those are the breaks sometimes. We rebound big time as always with a huge card for Friday that includes winners in all 3 bowl games along with 2 NCAA Hoops and 2 NBA winners. Two TOP PLAYS are going on the day. Our One Day Pass for $14.95 gets all of the winners for Friday.
We are still hitting close to 60% on our TOP PLAYS over the last 2 months and even with the close calls yesterday, we are still up in the bowl season.

Charlotte 49ers at Southern Illinois Salukis 8:05 pm EST
Southern Illinois –3.5 (2 Units)
Southern Illinois comes in with a solid 8-1 record and along with that, they bring a 31 game home winning streak. Their last setback was a 79-74 loss to Evansville back in February of 2001. The Salukis will be looking for some revenge after suffering an 80-67 loss at Charlotte last season. This game end up being just as important to the Salukis' NCAA Tournament hopes as their memorable showdown with Indiana was just over two years ago. The Salukis have another rare opportunity to impress the NCAA Selection Committee with a big-time win. The 49ers are also huge, featuring a front line of Martin Iti (7’0”), Butter Johnson (6’8”) and Curtis Withers (6’8”). And it's no secret that size is not a Saluki strength. However, Southern Illinois will counter that with their quickness. Their plan will be to try and run the 49ers out of the gym. Charlotte has one quality win on the road as they defeated Syracuse in their 3rd game of the season. They were forced to double overtime against Old Dominion and lost to Alabama while defeating UNC-Asheville and losing to Rhode Island most recently in their four other games away from home. The 49ers lead Conference USA in scoring with 86.6 ppg but the Salukis are allowing only 62.7 ppg and 54.5 ppg at home. We see another win for Southern Illinois at home extending the third longest home winning streak in the country.
