HOLIDAY BOWL 3* SELECTION: Washington State (+)

This game immediately stood out as soon as the bowl matchups were announced. Texas has been to this bowl two out of the last three years. They failed to cover both times. They would have been a BCS pick if Kansas State had not upset Oklahoma. It must be a big disappointment for Texas to be back in this game.

Washington State also could have been in a BCS game, but they probably are not too disappointed about being here. They outperformed expectations for the season and could earn a nice feather in their cap by knocking off the Longhorns.

The key to this game is Washinton State's run defense. Washington State only gave up 2.6 yards per carry on the year. Only three of their opponents cracked the 100 yard mark. Thus, they should be able to slow Texas down, force some long third downs, and make Texas attempt some field goals. Texas has a good stop unit, but they probably will give up some points to Washington State. Texas did a great job of shutting down the weak teams they played, but they gave up some points to Arkansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech.

PAC-10 teams are an amazing 14-2 ATS when installed as a dog against the Big 12 conference when they are off a loss since 1985. This includes a 5-1 ATS record in December bowl games. PAC-10 teams are also 6-2 ATS against Texas since 1985, which includes a PERFECT 5-0 ATS record when they are off a loss. PAC-10 teams are also 6-1 ATS when getting seven or more points in a December bowl game. Take the points in this one.
