Georgia Southern Eagles at Southern Miss Golden Eagles 8:00 pm EST
Georgia Southern +7 (2 Units)
Balance, experience and depth are extremely important and Georgia Southern has all three. While they lost career scoring leader Julius Jenkins, they bring back a solid nucleus and with a strong inside-outside game, they should give the Golden Eagles fits. Balance – their top 4 scorers consist of 2 forwards and 2 guards, all averaging double figures. Experience – of their 9 players getting significant playing time, 7 of them are juniors or seniors. One of those juniors, center Courtney Joseph, is out for this game. Depth – 10 different players have started at least one game this season. The Eagles are averaging 82 ppg this season, over 5 points more than they averaged last season so the loss of Jenkins hasn’t been felt just yet. The defense is allowing 77 ppg on the year but if not for 2 games, the average would be much lower. They have held 3 opponents to 66 points or less. Southern Miss brings back a lot from last season, especially down low, but their backcourt is thin. The starting backcourt is averaging just 14.5 ppg with not much coming off the bench. The frontcourt is the strength of this team but their tallest player stands just 6’8” so Georgia Southern won’t be hurt with the loss of their center Joseph.
