The Rockets have won four straight. Let there be no doubt that we are aware that early season injuries slowed down the Spurs offense but they still score only 91.4 ppg against teams allowing 93.8.
Houston is allowing just 84.7 points per game against teams whose cumulative offensive average is 92.2. They allow just 84.4 at home. Houston is shooting better than 45 percent from the field at home while allowing just 39.1 from the field.
Going against road teams that allow less than 42 percent shooting after three straight games in which they allowed less than 41 percent from the field is 54-19. There is a subset of that system that is 80 percent.
We look for the Spurs big man to slow down tonight. Rasho Nesterovic averaged 16.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.0 blocks during the Spurs’ three-game road trip, but he steps up in competition tonight. Yao had his first 20-20 game Saturday against Detroit. He is one of 10 players in the league averaging a double-double and trails only Shaquille O’Neal among NBA centers in scoring.
The Spurs are again off to a slow start. Only one of the team’s 13 victories has come against a team (Utah) with a winning record. Utah has a winning record?
There is no sense of urgency. The Spurs got off to a similar start last season. They compiled an unimpressive 12-9 record before going on their torrid run through the league, which culminated with 32 wins in their final 38 games.
