Yale Bulldogs at St. Peter’s Peacocks 7:00 pm EST

    Yale +1.5 (2 Units)

In their last game, the Bulldogs, who had been outrebounded by all but one opponent this season, outrebounded Sacred Heart 47-35, including 27-16 in the second half when they had 11 offensive rebounds. This is very important since they are a much bigger team than St. Peter’s. For Yale down low, starters Dominick Martin and Paul Vitelli stand 6’10” and 6’8” respectively while the Peacocks will counter with Ivan Bozovic and Mark Curry who are 6’9” and 6’5”. St. Peter’s has center Amir Ali, who stands 6’11”, but he is averaging just 12 mpg. The Peacocks top 5 scorers are all guards with 3 of those 6’0” or under. The Bulldogs are 31-6 when they outrebound their opponent since the start of the 2002-03 season. Yale leads the Ivy League with 33 blocks while the Peacocks have tallied just 7 in their 4 games. The Bulldogs are second in the Ivy League in field goal percentage at 46.7% (168-360) and have made 53.4% (140 of 262) of their two-point shots. Yale is third in the Ivy League in steals (7.14 per game) and assists (14.71 per game). At 3-1, Saint Peter's is off to its best start since 1995-96. However, their last 2 wins have come against St. Francis (NY) and Loyola-Maryland, ranked 280th and 325th out of 326 teams. Two of Yale's three losses this season have come against nationally ranked opponents. While the Peacocks will be looking to get their 4th consecutive win, something tells us they may be peeking ahead to their game on Saturday against in-state rival Seton Hall. The Yanitelli Center hasn’t been a very intimidating place for visitors as St. Peter’s is just 14-33 at home over the past 3+ years.

New Orleans Hornets at Phoenix Suns 10:05 pm EST

    Over 182.5 Phoenix/New Orleans (3 Units)

Phoenix fired coach Frank Johnson on Wednesday after losing 6 of their last 7 games to start the season 8-13. Taking over for Johnson is assistant coach Mike D'Antoni. D'Antoni last coached in the NBA for the Nuggets during the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season. He promised to immediately try to boost the tempo, beginning with the next game Thursday against New Orleans. “It should be exciting the first couple of nights. Balls should be flying around. We'll try not to hurt anybody,'' D'Antoni said. ``But hopefully it will make it exciting, anyway. We're getting up and down. It will be some adjusting and there will be some bad shots going up. I'm going to tell you that right now. It will take awhile to get that out of their system. But I'm not going to pull the reins back on them.'' The Suns are already shooting the ball well at home at 45.1%, which is 8th in the league. A more up tempo style should create more easy baskets and the bad shots being put up that D'Antoni stated will give the Hornets more opportunities for easy baskets as well. The Hornets lead the league with 392 3-pointers attempted and they are by far the biggest long-range shooters on the road with 23.3 attempts per game. That number may come down due to more fast break opportunities. A change was necessary in Phoenix and D’Antoni has the right idea to help change this stale team. The Suns have lost their last 3 home games and in those games, they put up just 81.3 ppg. He added, “We are going to try to be exciting. We are going to try to put up a lot of points. We have the talent, physical capabilities, a nice style of basketball that’s fun to watch. To me that’s the most important thing. If it’s fun for the players, it’s going to be fun for the fans. If we can get some excitement, who knows what you can do.”
