    THURSDAY'S MAC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME -

7 STAR SELECTION (5% of Bankroll)

Miami, OH -7 over BOWLING GREEN

The Mid-American Conference Championship is on the line Thursday when #20 Bowling Green hosts #14 Miami of Ohio. Both teams are making their first-ever appearances in the MAC title tilt, although both have won previous league crowns. The RedHawks come into this contest as the only unbeaten team in conference play, having won all eight of their MAC games this season, including a 56-21 thrashing of UCF last Friday. They also have one of the nation's longest current winning streaks, having won all 11 games this year since their season opening loss to Iowa back on August 30. The only team that has gone longer without a loss is the Oklahoma Sooners. In regards to the Falcons, they have also put together an impressive 2003 campaign, posting 10 wins overall and a mark of 7-1 in league action. The Falcons to advanced to this championship game by winning three straight conference tilts, including last Saturday's crucial victory over Toledo, 31-23 at home.

The RedHawks have taken the last five meetings from the Falcons, including a 33-10 victory in its earlier matchup with the Falcons this season, and we see more of the same here. Miami QB Ben Roethlisberger has been nothing short of amazing this season and he showed once again that he should be in the running for the Heisman Trophy last weekend. Roethlisberger led the RedHawks in their win over UCF by throwing for 327 yards and five touchdowns on 24-of-29 pass attempts. The RedHawks haven't had to do much on the ground this season, as Roethlisberger has taken this team on his shoulders and led them to this championship game. The future NFL signal-caller has thrown for 29 touchdowns and 3,670 yards this year, while completing better than 69 percent of his pass attempts.

Much like Miami, Bowling Green is led by a very talented quarterback will take it. Josh Harris has put together another spectacular campaign for the Falcons. In the game where the Falcons needed Harris the most, he shined bright last weekend against Toledo. The senior quarterback threw for 256 yards and three touchdowns on 21-of-26 pass attempts, while also leading the team on the ground with 75 yards rushing off of 18 scrambles. P.J. Pope, the team's starting tailback, ran for only 31 yards in the win.

This is going to be a hard-fought game. Both teams want the league title, and Bowling Green wants revenge for getting smacked around by Miami a few weeks ago; however, the Redhawks are simply heads-and-shoulders above every other team in the MAC and should prevail here once again. Miami is one of the few teams to have success this season against BG QG Harris. The RedHawks came at him with lots of pressure and forced him into three fumbles in the victory at Miami four weeks ago. It was easily the worst outing of the year for Harris and the Falcons. The credit goes to the Miami defense, as they flustered Harris, holding the senior to 160 yards passing. Running on the RedHawks is nearly impossible, so that likely won't work either, especially if there's a muddy and slippery track. The bad news for the Falcons is that Miami's Roethlisberger wasn't particularly sharp in that meeting either. He should be better here. The RedHawks have already broken the MAC's single-season scoring mark with 504 points, and Bowling Green simply does not have the defense to shut them down. Miami is now 4-0 SU/ATS vs. the Falcons and 8-2 ATS over their last 10 meetings. Bowling Green is just 2-8 ATS off 3+ games scoring 31+ points, and won't be able to keep up with Miami, as the Redhawks put this one away in the second half.

PROJECTED FINAL SCORE: MIAMI, OHIO 38 BOWLING GREEN 28

ACTUAL FINAL SCORE: MIAMI, OHIO 49 BOWLING GREEN 27!

GAME NOTE: Miami had just a 4-point lead at half time, but as predicted "put this one away in the second half" going up 49-20 before allowing a late, meaningless Bowling Green TD.
