5* Monster goes Thursday night.
I played both of these:
New England -1/2 in 1st quarter. Wednesday morning -120 at Olympic. Now -145? Shop it now. I'd rather give -3 in 1st quarter at even money than giving -145.
New England -6 in 1st half. Still at Oly.
Last week the Rams raced out to a 13-0 lead in the 1st quarter at Cleveland. Then again maybe "raced" isn't the proper term. A.J. Feeley (hurt and out this week) directed a legitimate scoring drive and threw a TD pass before leaving with a thumb injury. Cleveland QB Jake "Mr Turnover" Delhomme fumbled at his own 23. Sam Bradford couldn't move the Rams and they settled for a field goal. Nine plays later Browns' return specialist Josh Cribbs fumbles at his own 21. Three plays later after Bradford moved the team two yards, Josh Brown kicked another field goal making it 13-0. The Browns went on to commit five turnovers compared to zero for St. Louis. The Rams with Feeley had three first downs and 65 yards on their opening drive. The Rams with Bradford and Keith Null behind center accumulated nine first downs and 107 yards of offense in the final 52:05 or 3 1/2 quarters. Bradford and Null were a combined 9-of-28 for 70 yards. The Rams accumulated 172 total yards last week after 150 in week #1 versus Minnesota losing 28-7 at home. Defensively, the Rams allowed the Vikings 414 total yards including 310 thrown by Sage Rosenfels. That is astonishing if you saw the Vikings against the 49ers. That was the 2nd consecutive road preseason game for the men in purple. This is the 2nd straight road game for St. Louis without their presumed #1 quarterback in Feeley (or at least should be). Granted Steven Jackson didn't play in week #1 and only had four carries last week. He will get more time Thursday night but if I'm Coach Spagnuolo, I don't risk injury to my #1 weapon for very long. The Rams already have one quarterback injured and Minnesota recorded six sacks against them two weeks ago. The offensive line did a much better job against Cleveland, albeit in the rain slowing down the Browns' pass rush. But what does it say defensively about St. Louis knowing that Jake Delhomme went 12-of-16 for 127 the week after Sage Rosenfels burned you for over 300 yards? Tom Brady has to be licking his chops. The New England offense is humming. So far in two preseason games Brady and company have outscored New Orleans with Drew Brees and Atlanta with Matt Ryan a combined 17-3. Now we oppose Sam Bradford and the Rams in the opening quarter -1/2? I'll have to try it. Brady was 10-of-12 for 85 yards and a touchdown at the Georgia Dome and is 15-of-23 so far for 152 yards with zero picks. Brian Hoyer is establishing himself as the #2 guy completing 16-of-28 for 200 yards, a touchdown and no interceptions. I also love the fact that both Taylor and Morris had over 50 yards rushing against the Falcons. The Patriots have scored at least seven points in 7/8 preseason quarters to date (field goal in the other). The Rams have been outgained 699-322 so far in two NFLX games. In terms of per play, the Rams are averaging 2.7 yards per play while allowing 5.17. I loved Brady's comments this week about his hatred toward the Jets suspecting New England's swagger is back at least on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively they might not be as strong or deep as in glory seasons, but held the Falcons to three points well into the 4th quarter last week on the road. I personally playedthe Patriots -1/2 @ -120 at Olympic Wednesday morning. Now the juice is -145 and climbing. Certainly solid enough to get past this feeble offense in St. Louis. Sometimes you have to grab the obvious and not worry about traps, points, or God forbid being called a "square." LOL.
Best of luck Thursday night.
