Richmond Spiders vs. San Francisco Dons @ Kansas City 7:00 pm EST

    Richmond –2.5 (3 Units)

San Francisco is without All-West Coast Conference guard John Cox, who will miss four to six weeks with a muscle strain suffered in the team's season opening win over Tennessee Martin. In their next game, they were beaten handily by Southwest Missouri St. as the Dons were able to put up only 42 points as they shot only 36.2%. Three nights later they defeated Ohio St. 76-65 but it was very misleading. The Dons only shot 40.7% from the floor and 29.4% from behind the arc while allowing the Buckeyes 47.9% and 53.8%. Ohio St. lost the game more than San Francisco won it as they committed 18 turnovers and missed 14 of their 26 free throw attempts. Another starter, James Bayless, was also injured in the Tennessee Martin game but returned against Ohio St. His knee is still bothering him so he won’t be 100%. Like many other teams in the A-10, the Spiders are fortunate to have many key contributors from last season's team back in place. While head coach Jerry Wainright does not have a star in his lineup, there are enough quality contributors to keep Richmond competitive on most nights. In their second game of the Guardians Classic against New Hampshire, Richmond's senior class combined for 45 points, 28 of the Spiders' 33 in the second-half, to carry Richmond in a 63-49 win. They nearly matched the score of the previous game that was a 62-46 win over Mississippi Valley St. The Spiders rebounded from a bad shooting night in their opener but still are not shooting lights out. The good news is that their opposition is shooting worse. Defense has been the strength of Richmond and it looks as though they are starting where left off last year. The Spiders, second in the Atlantic 10 (26th nationally) last year allowing 62.4 points per game, have held both of their opponents to less than 50 points this season. Richmond has the veterans to win this game while the Dons are once again without their best player and it has shown in the stats. We get some value here with their misleading win over Ohio St.
