The Magic are a team that will struggle out of the gate. Yes the Knicks as they are prone to do completely handed the Magic a win last night, but to those who watched, you saw it was a clear case of the Knicks losing rather than the Magic winning.
Total lack of hustle on the Knicks part allowed a weak rebounding team to get key offensive rebounds in rout to a 15-0 run at the end of regulation and the beginning of overtime.
Orlando struggled greatly in the preseason going 1-7. They are retooled with three rookies on the 12-man roster, an average age of 25.5 years. Only two of their top eight players will have been wearing a Magic uniform for a full season.
No starting center has emerged, and they likely will have with a starting lineup of three forwards (Juwan Howard, Britton Johnsen and Gooden) and two guards (McGrady and Tyronn Lue). The new lineup doesn’t look comfortable around McGrady. And the 2003 draft picks (Reece Gaines, Keith Bogans and Zaza Pachulia) will be of little help at the start of the season.
Johnsen, 24, is an undrafted rookie who capitalized on injuries to Pat Garrity (injured list) and Donnell Harvey (abdominal strain) to make the team and the starting lineup, but he was unimpressive in the last couple of exhibition games.
With a team lacking chemistry the back-to-back will work against them much more than Char… I mean New Orleans.
Magic star Tracy McGrady is coming off of a very good, but exhausting defensive performance against Allan Houston. We look for the Hornets, a team with more continuity at this point to win SU.
