    (121) Ohio Bobcats at (122) Buffalo Bulls 1:00 pm EST

    Ohio -14 (3 Units)

A win this weekend would even Ohio's conference record and set them up for the bulk of the season that is yet to come. "Our goal is to compete for that division title, and we are still competing for it," Ohio coach Brian Knorr said. "To get back to .500 would put us right in the thick of it."

Buffalo tied a school record with their loss to Marshall Saturday by losing its 18th consecutive game. It was a game in which they had their chances but let it get away late. Perhaps more than all the other losses, the pain cut deep. "For me, yeah, this one really hurt," said senior linebacker Lamar Wilcher, who recorded eight tackles, including one for a loss. "This is my last homecoming and this is what you dream about for your last homecoming: Beating a great team like Marshall. They have a tradition of being a great team every year, and if we would have won this year it would have been like a Cinderella story." How they recover will be the story here and we think there will be no focus on the Bobcats. The last victory came in 2001 over this same Ohio team 44-0 and the Bobcats remember that loss and they will not take this game lightly, especially after the close call that Marshall had. Last year in Athens, the Bobcats beat the Bulls, 34-32, on a field goal in the final seconds of the game. "They think it was a fluke because we got them on a field goal," Ohio running back Brad Young said. "So this year we have something to prove to them. We're coming out, and we're going to bring it."

Ohio lost to Kentucky 35-14 last week but it was a very misleading final. Kentucky only outgained the Bobcats by 26 yards and had just 2 more first downs. The Wildcats blocked a punt and recovered a fumble that set up two easy scores and later scored thanks to another fumble in the 4th quarter. Ohio had a chance to tie the game at the end of the 3rd quarter but they were stopped at the Kentucky 1-yard line. Buffalo will have trouble with the complexity of the Ohio running game and their multiple flexbone sets. The Bulls rank dead last in the country in rushing defense, allowing 238 ypg and 5.5 ypc while the Bobcats are surpassing 200 ypg on offense. Buffalo is 111th in total defense and 113th in scoring defense. Offensively, the Bulls can't pass the ball as they are 116th in the nation, not even getting 100 ypg. They spend most of their time running the ball and they have succeeded in some degree as they are ranked 46th. However, that goes right into the strength of the Ohio defense as the Bobcats are 44th against the run, yielding just 133 ypg.

While the stats heavily favor the Bobcats, this game is more about emotion. The Bulls really wanted that game last weekend and because they fell just short, it took a lot of focus away from them this week. Ohio is still in the thick of things in the MAC and they still feel the loss from 2 years ago in western New York. They should be able to name it here.
