Kansas City-Oakland UNDER 47’
Jerry Porter may return tonight for Oakland, but the Raiders big play specialist will not be close to 100 percent. What he would do though it open things underneath for Jerry Rice and Tim Brown, which means finally the Raiders can have some ball control. Not that they have a choice. Starting LG Frank Middleton and starting RG Mo Collins are likely out for the Raiders, so a vertical offense would be suicidal.
We also expect KC to be more conservative. On the defensive side, the Raiders will likely be without their best run stopper John Parella. Considering how much Oakland has struggled against the run and with Tony Gonzalez hot at TE, Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil won’t go nuts with a passing game that has outplayed its talent.
Trent Green is solid but not the superstar that many think and the wideouts have gotten tons of breaks. While Dante Hall is the best punt and kickoff returner in the league, he can’t maintain this pace and with a total at 47’, he will have to in order to get it above the number.
KC is horrible at stopping the run. Yes this is certainly not a game that will be in single digits, but both team’s offensives match up better running the ball than a deep game. The Raiders defense is last in the league against the run, in the middle of the pack against the pass. We expect the coaches to notice.
