NM State moved starting guard Nick Cole to tackle, moved Tommy Laborin from defensive tackle to offensive guard and has seen increased playing time for true freshman Kyle Smith.
The Aggies now rank ninth in the nation in rushing offense at 218.2 yards per game. NM State ranked 40th in the nation prior to the recent two-game outburst.
In his last two games, NMSU QB Buck Pierce has completed 18 of 20 passes for 220 yards. He leads the Sun Belt Conference in passing efficiency with a 142.2 rating and if he had enough pass attempts, he would rank in the top 25 in the nation.
On the season, Pierce has completed 40 of 61 passes for nearly 66 percent (65.6). For his career, Pierce has completed 128 of 205 passes for 62 percent. He of course has a red hot wideout too. Senior receiver Ronshay Jenkins had his third consecutive 100-yard game by catching eight passes for 103 yards against Middle Tennessee. He is the first player in school history to post three consecutive 100 yard or better receiving games.
Jenkins compiled 23 catches for 412 yards in those three games. Tony Joseph a freshman running back is high stepping it too. Joseph posted his second consecutive 100 yard plus rushing game with 115 yards on 19 carries against Middle Tennessee. In his last two games, Joseph has 40 carries for 278 yards for an average of 6.9 yards per carry.
The Cajuns are off of a heartbreaking homecoming loss to Louisiana-Monroe, where I almost went to graduate school. Oh, Monroe was winless before winning on the road on homecoming Saturday. The Cajuns have allowed 40 points or more in four straight games, so the TD spread is not much.
Before hosting the winless Indians, LL did not have a TD pass of more than four yards. That’s not good when your defense is allowing 40 plus.
Our official outlaw line has this game at –10. However, we must admit there is a strong computer system that downgraded this from a premium play. Going against road favorites of 3’-10 points after a game with a turnover margin of –3 or worse is 30-4.
