    Houston 27 EAST CAROLINA 13

    Houston outgained the Pirates 437-200, had 10 more first downs and averaged 6.0 ypp compared to 3.2 for East Carolina. The Cougars held East Carolina to 90 yards over the final 3 quarters.

    (2) MIAMI-FLORIDA 22 West Virginia 20

    The Hurricanes survived yet another scare as they drove 66 yards in 1:49 to set up their game winning 23-yard field goal. West Virginia finished with only 12 first downs as they were 1-10 on 3rd down but they averaged 6.6 ypp thanks to a few long gainers. Miami rushed for only 95 yards on 28 carries (3.4 ypc) mostly due to the injury of Frank Gore.

    UTAH 17 (19) Oregon 13

    Utah won the yardage, first down, TOP and turnover battles in upsetting the Ducks. They held Oregon to 80 yards rushing on 32 carries (2.5 ypc). The one downfall for the Utes were 2 missed field goals inside 25 yards.

    (4) Virginia Tech 48 RUTGERS 22

    The Hokies dominated, outyarding Rutgers 473-311 and putting up 8 more first downs. 4 interceptions let to 21 Virginia Tech points. Rutgers scored the first 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter, one by an interception return, and held on for the cover after a late Hokies touchdown.

    GEORGIA TECH 29 NC State 21

    The Yellow Jackets clamped down on the NC State rushing attack, holding them to –8 yards on 19 carries. The Wolfpack entered Georgia Tech territory on 4 of their 6 second half drives but came away with only 11 points. NC State was flagged 10 times for 105 yards.

    (25) MICHIGAN ST 31 Indiana 3

    The Spartans outgained Indiana 486-285 and they finished with 30 first downs on the day. Indiana did make it inside the Michigan St. 35-ayrd line 4 times but they came away with just 1 field goal. The Spartans fumbled the ball 4 times but were able to regain it each time.

    (21) Minnesota 42 NORTHWESTERN 17

    The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead until the Gophers woke up and rolled the rest of the way. Minnesota racked up 572 yards of offense and averaged 9.4 ypp. 5 of their 6 touchdowns were more than 30 yards with two of being over 80 yards. Northwestern was held to 118 total yards in the final 3 quarters.

    Wisconsin 30 PENN STATE 23

    Penn St. actually outyarded the Badgers 424-374 but rushing and turnovers were the story here. The Nittany Lions were held to 45 yards rushing on 28 carries (1.6 ypc) while Wisconsin ran for 234 yards on 51 carries (4.6 ypc). Penn St. lost 3 fumbles, 1 inside the Wisconsin 25-yard line and the other 2 deep in their own territory.

    BAYLOR 42 Colorado 30

    The Bears pulled off the big upset thanks to 5 Colorado turnovers. The Buffaloes outgained Baylor 456-410 but the miscues along with 13 penalties did them in. Baylor scored 21 points off turnovers and change of possession on 4th down. Baylor held Colorado to 57 yards rushing on 27 carries (2.1 ypc).

    Ole Miss 20 (24) FLORIDA 17

    Another upset as Mississippi rallied to score the only 2nd half points. The Rebels surprised with their ability to run the ball as they rushed for 223 yards on 36 carries (6.2 ypc). Florida was picked off 3 times in the 4th quarter halting any chance of a victory and cover.

    (12) NEBRASKA 30 Troy State 0

    The Blackshirts held Troy St. to only 10 first downs and 150 total yards. Nebraska benefited from starting their drives at their own 45-yard line. The Trojans held the potent Nebraska rushing offense in check, allowing only 186 yards on 47 carries (3.9 ypc) but allowed 160 yards through the air on only 9 completions.

    Virginia 38 NO CAROLINA 13

    The Cavs dominated after North Carolina started the scoring with a 50-yard field goal. Virginia tallied 515 yards of offense while allowing only 265 yards. Virginia was only penalized twice and they held the Tar Heels to 58 yards rushing on 25 carries (2.3 ypc)

    NAVY 28 Air Force 25

    Navy won the rushing battle 294-275 as they edged the Falcons at 14-points dogs. The Midshipmen were penalized only 2 times as they ran the ball on 92% of their plays. Air Force cut the lead to 3 points early in the 4ht quarter on a fumble recovery for a touchdown but Navy responded with a TD of their own to seal the deal.

    MIAMI-OHIO 45 Akron 20

    Miami broke open a close game with 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to pull out the win and cover. The Redhawks outyarded Akron 553-305 and held the ball for over 11 minutes longer. The Zips were within reach but they turned the ball over on 3 of their last 4 possessions, leading to all 21 4th quarter points.

    Ball State 34 KENT STATE 17

    Ball St. outscored Kent 20-0 in the second half as they forced 4 turnovers, 2 missed field goals and a turnover on downs in the final 30 minutes. Kent won the yardage battle 365-302 as Ball St. was forced to punt 9 times and also committed 9 penalties.

    Western Mich 31 EASTERN MICH 3

    Eastern Michigan was held to 9 first downs and 134 total yards as the Broncos dominated. The Eagles had only 4 drives more than 20 yards and 4 drives that resulted in negative yardage. Western Michigan recorded 6 sacks and held the Eagles to 46 yards passing.

    U-A-B 24 MEMPHIS 10

    Memphis outyarded the Blazers 346-326 but 2 turnovers and costly penalties cost them. The Tigers roughed the passer twice and the kicker once, all to keep UAB drives alive. UAB dominated the first half with a 212-80 yardage advantage.

    MISS STATE 30 Vanderbilt 21

    This was a very close game on the stat sheets with only 28 yards separating the two teams. Turnovers and tough defense made the difference for the Bulldogs as Vanderbilt turned the ball over on downs twice in the 4th quarter and also fumbled the ball at the Mississippi St. 24-yard line. The Bulldogs scored 10 points off turnover which made the difference.

    COLORADO ST 34 Fresno State 10

    The Rams finally got their ground game going as they rushed for 270 yards on 41 carries (6.6 ypc). Colorado St. held the Bulldogs to just 113 first half yards after spotting them an early 3-0 lead. The Rams scored on 5 consecutive possessions to blow the game open.

    Boise State 43 LOUISIANA TECH 37

    There was no defense in this game as Boise St. put up 732 yards of offense while the Bulldogs put up 559 yards. There were 10 scoring drives of more than 70 yards. Boise St, should have been able to get the cover but they committed 4 turnovers and were flagged 11 times for 98 yards.

    (13) TEXAS 24 (16) Kansas State 20

    Texas opened up a 17-3 before the Wildcats came storming back to take the lead only to give it up as Texas scored the final touchdown to pull out the win. Kansas St. had a chance to increase their 4th quarter lead but they fumbled at the Texas 12-yard line and the Longhorns took advantage by driving 88 yards for their winning score.

    (10) U-S-C 37 ARIZONA STATE 17

    USC scored the final 27 points after the Sun Devils took a 7-point lead midway through the 3rd quarter. The Trojans racked up 529 yards of offense and the defense held Arizona St. to 76 total yards after that 3rd quarter touchdown. The Sun Devils entered USC territory in only 2 of their last 11 drives.

    (11) GEORGIA 37 Alabama 23

    Georgia held Alabama to 209 total yards and 12 first downs as they held off the Tide to get the cover. Alabama scored their last 2 touchdowns on a fumble recovery and interception return. In 11 of the 15 Tide drives, the Bulldogs held them to single digit or negative yardage. Georgia committed 11 penalties for 99 yards that cut down a lot of their production.

    MARYLAND 21 Clemson 7

    Maryland held the Tigers to 10 yards rushing on 29 carries (0.3 ypc). Clemson entered Maryland territory in 4 of their last 5 drives but they turned it over on downs twice and threw an interception although they never entered the redzone the whole game.

    (23) IOWA 30 (9) Michigan 27

    The Wolverines outgained the Hawkeyes 463-295 but Iowa recovered from a 20-10 deficit by scoring 20 unanswered points and then held on to get the underdog win. Michigan started strong by scoring in 4 of their first 5 possessions but the offense was shut down after that, gaining only 59 yards on their next 10 drives.

    BOWLING GREEN 23 Central Mich 3

    Bowling Green dominated in total yardage 508-284 but 2 missed field goals and a fumble in Central Michigan territory blew any chance of a cover. They entered Chippewa territory in 11 of their 12 drives but were forced to 3 field goals inside the redzone.

    (22) PURDUE 43 Illinois 10

    Purdue held Illinois to 11 first downs and 191 total yards while getting 29 first downs and totaling 533 yards themselves. They rushed for 324 yards on 67 carries (4.8 ypc) while allowing only 38 yards rushing on 17 carries (2.2 ypc). Illinois scored their only touchdown on a 41-yard punt return.

    (14) WASHINGTON ST 30 Arizona 7

    Washington St. dominated as they outgained the Wildcats 513-198 and had 15 more first downs. They held Arizona to 0-13 on 3rd down conversions. This game should have been a lot worse but 3 turnovers in Arizona territory and 12 penalties for 89 yards held down their point total.

    Oregon State 35 CALIFORNIA 21

    The Beavers outyarded Cal 493-237 as they held the Bears to only 52 yards through the air on 9-32 passing. Cal scored their first touchdown on a 72-yard interception return so the score could have been a lot worse. Penalties killed Oregon St. once again as they committed 13 for 151 yards.

    U-C-F 19 Buffalo 10

    The Golden Knights used a potent rushing game to defeat the Bulls. With Ryan Schneider out, Central Florida rushed for 298 yards on 55 carries (5.4 ypc). The problem for the Knights was their 2-6 conversion rate inside the redzone. 2 missed field goals, a fumble and a turnover on downs took away a ton of points and any chance of a cover. Buffalo has 47 total yards in the 2nd half.

    U-C-L-A 46 (18 ) Washington 16

    UCLA spotted Washington a 16-7 halftime lead and them went on to score 39 unanswered 2nd half points. The Huskies outgained the Bruins in the first half 276-130 but UCLA returned the favor in the second half with a 262-82 yardage advantage. UCLA forced 4 turnovers in the second half, leading to 24 points.

    (1) Oklahoma 53 IOWA STATE 7

    Oklahoma dominated as they outyarded the Cyclones 613-234 and had 25 more first downs while holding the ball over 14 minutes longer. Iowa St. rushed for only 88 yards on 31 carries (2.8 ypc) and they scored their only touchdown on an interception return. The Oklahoma defense also recorded 6 sacks to none for the Cyclones.

    Temple 44 MID TENN ST 36

    The Blue Raiders jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Temple scored the next 31 points and held off a late rally to pull out the outright win. Middle Tennessee St. outyarded the Owls 432-367 but 4 turnovers and a big punt return led to 20 points. Temples first 24 points came on 4 drives that averaged 18.5 yards per drive. The Blue Raiders ended the game on the Temple 14-yard line as they were stopped on downs.

    ARKANSAS STATE 44 UL Monroe 41

    La-Monroe outyarded the Indians 538-365 but 4 turnovers did them in. Arkansas St. scored on a safety and returned a fumble for a touchdown. Arkansas St. didn’t take their first lead until there was 9:51 remaining in the game breaking a 30-30 tie. The teams combined for 21 penalties.

    SO FLORIDA 31 Louisville 28

    Louisville outyarded the Bulls 459-375 but South Florida controlled the clock over 12 minutes longer. The Bulls scored the game tying touchdown with :10 remaining after going 67 yards for their longest drive of the day. In the 2nd overtime. Louisville threw an interception on their drive that was almost returned for the winning touchdown. The Bulls ended up kicking the 26-yard field goal to in it.

    OKLAHOMA STATE 56 UL Lafayette 3

    The Cowboys spotted La-Lafayette a 3-0 first quarter lead and ten scored the next 56 points. The Cajuns could have had more in the 1st but they missed a field goal and threw an interception at the Cowboys 20-yard line. The Cowboys only finished with 125 more total yards but they scored 2 touchdowns on punt returns. They rushed for 303 yards on 34 carries (8.9 ypc)

    TULSA 27 Hawaii 16

    Tulsa scored the only 17 points of the 2nd half as they rallied from a 13-point deficit to pick up their third win on the season. Hawaii scored on their first 3 drives to start the game but were then shutout as they gained only 151 yards the rest of the game. The Golden Hurricane rushed for 285 yards on 49 carries (5.8 ypc).

    Southern Miss 22 CINCINNATI 20

    Southern Miss scored the final 16 points of the game thanks to a 94-yard kickoff return. Their first touchdown came off a fumble and they finished the game with only 8 first downs and 200 yards of offense. Cincinnati was held to 138 yards in the second half and they missed a 44-yard field goal late in the 4th, which ended up being the difference.

    (20) T-C-U 27 Army 0

    The Horned Frogs held Army to 10 first downs and 204 total yards including just 28 on the ground. The Cadets finished 3-17 on third down and finished with a surprisingly low 2 turnovers, although a fumble was returned for a touchdown. TCU was penalized 9 times for 85 yards in their only low point of the game.

    (17) NORTHERN ILL 30 Ohio U 23

    The Huskies survived overtime to stay undefeated as only 4 yards separated the two teams. The Bobcats held the ball for nearly 15 minutes longer but a sack on 4th down in overtime ended the game. Ohio held the potent Northern Illinois rushing attack to just 36 yards rushing on 25 carries (1.4 ypc).

    AUBURN 28 (7) Tennessee 21

    Auburn got their rushing game going while holding the Vols to just 4 yards rushing on 16 carries (0.3 ypc). The Tigers finished with 264 yards on 57 carries (4.6 ypc). Because of the rushing difference, Auburn held the ball for 14 minutes longer and finished the game 9-14 on 3rd down. After scoring 14 points to cut the lead to 7, Tennessee was driving for the tying score but was intercepted at the Auburn 29 to end the game.

    Idaho 35 NEW MEXICO ST 31

    Idaho rallied from a 24-point deficit by scoring the final 28 points in pulling off the upset. The Vandals were intercepted in 3 of their first 5 drives, all in Aggies territory. They then scored a touchdown on their next 5 possessions. The teams combined for 1,158 total yards

    Texas-El Paso 21 S-M-U 19

    UTEP outyarded SMU 422-313 but had to hold off two late Mustang drive to pull out the win. The Miners only gained 107 yards on their last 6 possessions but they were fortunate as they scored on 2 big plays. They blocked a punt for a touchdown and also scored on an 86-ayrd pass.

    RICE 28 San Jose St 24

    Only 5 yards separated the 2 teams but Rice rallied from a 10-point deficit by scoring 2 late 4th quarter touchdowns. The defense, which was non-existent for most of the game, forced two punts and the Owls drove 54 and 78 yards for the scores. Rice finished with 297 yards rushing on 61 carries (4.9 ypc)

    NEW MEXICO 34 Utah State 7

    New Mexico used a balanced attack to dispose of the Aggies, rushing for 166 yards and passing for 244. Utah St. scored their only touchdown on a 79-yard pass, but besides that, they gained only 142 total yards. Besides the touchdown, the closest they got to scoring was the New Mexico 34-yard line.

    TEXAS TECH 59 Texas A&M 28

    The offense of the Red Raiders was once again unstoppable as they put up 669 yards including 606 through the air. The defense allowed 489 yards however but they did force 3 turnovers on downs. The amazing thing is that Texas Tech was penalized 14 times for 143 yards so it could have been even more ugly. Symons threw 8 touchdown passes while sitting out the last 12 minutes of the game.

    B-Y-U 44 SAN DIEGO ST 36

    BYU had a 41-24 lead in the 3rd quarter and had to hold off an Aztecs charge to pull out the win. San Diego St. pulled to within 5 points midway through the 4th quarter but the Cougars held them to 7 total yards the rest of the game. The Aztecs gained only 40 yards on the ground on 34 carries (1.2 ypc).

    U-N-L-V 16 NEVADA 12

    The Rebels outyarded Nevada 383-272 but had to score the final 13 points to pull out the come from behind win. Penalties hurt UNLV as they were flagged 11 times for 116 yards. Nevada's defense forced two turnovers and held UNLV to only 34 yards rushing through the first three quarters. Nevada drove to the Rebels 43-yard line in the final minute but they were intercepted ending the game.
