NLCS: Florida vs. Chicago Best of Seven. Cubs Home Field Advantage. Our Play: Cubs in Six, -$200 to win back $100.
The Cubs won four of six during the regular season, plus they have the home field advantage here. In a best of seven series, it will generally come down to the pitching match ups and how well the bullpen can throw. We give both of these edges to the Cubs. With Kerry Wood and Mark Prior at the absolute top of their games in the first series against the Braves, the Marlins will not get very far in Games 2 and 3, which is where we see the Cubs taking control of the series. The scariest part of the Cubs lineup that beat the Braves in the first series was that Sammy Sosa did not hit well at all. Once he gets off, the Cubs will be World Series bound. The Fish throw their best in Game 1 with Josh Beckett, but after that they are severally out armed. We see this going no longer than six games, and we are laying $200 to win $100 back on the Cubbies.
Tonight we like Florida (Beckett +115) against Chicago (Zambrano). Just because we are taking the Cubs for the series does not mean we like them in every game. We are going to go with them, in all likelihood, in Games 2 and 3, behind Prior and Wood with better match ups. We feel that Josh Beckett is throwing much better than Zambrano right now, and that the Marlins will carry their emotions from the first series, plus their dynamite play down the stretch, on the field with them to help win Game 1. Both pitchers are 1-1 against the opposing team lifetime, and we are talking about virtual post season rookies. Beckett will stay hot and get the nod in Game 1, also grabbing the extra cash.
