***MLB Wild Card Series Plays***
Minnesota vs. New York Yanks Best of 5, Yankees Home Advantage.
Most importantly here is that this is the highest line of all four series'. The Yanks are laying $285 to win the series and that they will easily. The Yanks were upset in the first round last year by the Angels, that will not happen again. The Twins upset the A's in the first round last year, that will not happen again. The Yankees have beaten this Twins team an amazing thirteen straight games. The last time the Twins beat the Yanks, it was in 2001, and their rotation is not really any match for what the Yanks offer in this series. Game 1, Minnesota will send Johan Santana, clearly their best pitcher. Then they will bring Brad Radke for Game 2, and Kyle Lohse for Game 3. That trio matches up with Mike Mussina, Andy Pettitte, and Roger Clemens. If they can get to a fourth game, the Twins will not be able to handle the veteran lineup of the Yanks and even though the Twins have an advantage in the bullpen, this series will not come to that, Yanks in four.
Florida vs. San Francisco Best of 5, Giants Home Advantage.
Florida played as good, if not better, than any team going down the stretch to make it into the post season. The problem is that they are here now, and they must face the defending NL Champs in Round 1. The price for this series is Giants -$200, and we feel that it is a pretty safe bet for SF to continue on. The strength of the Fish is their starting rotation, but they will have their problems with the deep Giants who know what it takes to win the playoffs. The Giants owned Florida during the season, winning five of the six head to head games and will rely on their two excellent starters, Jason Schmidt and Sidney Ponson, to get them out on the right foot. The Fish will run Josh Beckett, Brad Penny, and Mark Redman for the first three, none of which has any experience in the post season, like most of the Marlins players. The edge will go to experience, and being able to handle Juan Pierre and Luis Castillo in the Marlins lineup. The Giants will for the most part, and win in four games.
Boston vs. Oakland Best of 5, A's Home Advantage.
Now here is where the fun starts, these next two series will be great match ups, and both can easily go all five games. The series price is Boston -$140, and we will lean toward the home team here and take the little bit of extra cash that comes with them. Game 1 will set the tone, Pedro vs. Hudson. Oakland edged out the season series from Boston, 4-3 and we see them edging out this series in five. After Pedro, Boston has elected to start Wakefield, instead of Lowe, because Lowe pitches better at home then on the road. If Oakland can squeak by Pedro in Game 1, they will have a huge advantage with Zito against Wakefield in Game 2. Once up 2-0, the A's will grab one of the next three for the series win. If Pedro wins Game 1, the pressure will be on Oakland to of course grab a game in Fenway to bring it back home for Game 5. We cannot see this talented A's team bowing out of the first round two straight seasons, especially with home advantage again. Oakland in five.
Chicago Cubs vs. Atlanta Best of 5, Braves Home Advantage.
The key to this series is the beautiful starting rotation of the Cubs versus the #1 scoring offense in the NL this season. In the post season, we always give an edge to the pitching, and we feel that the Cubs added enough pieces to their offensive puzzle, to be a major pain themselves at the plate, The price for this series is Atlanta -$130, and we are grabbing the upstart Cubs plus the extra cash to get into Round 2. The Cubs will go with Kerry Wood, Carlos Zambrano, and then Mark Prior, there may be no post season team with three starters as good as these guys. You definitely will not find that with the Braves, as after Russ Ortiz, the pickings get slim with quality. Mike Hampton will go in Game 2 and aging Greg Maddux will get the nod in Game 3. We see the edge being with the Cubs after these three games, and the Cubs pulling out the series in the final game. Cubs in five.
Recap:
NY Yanks in four, laying $285 to win $100.
SF Giants in four, laying $200 to win $100.
Oakland A's in five, laying $100 to win $135.
Chicago Cubs in five, laying $100 to win $120.
