The Seattle Mariners are fading fast from the playoff picture and they are facing a three game sweep from the A's tonight. Oakland's ace Dan Haren will be tonight's starter against the Mariners at Safeco Field. The Mariners have been outscored 119-69 while dropping 15 of their last 17 games which has pushed them 6 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL wild card race with 19 games left. The Mariners are trying to avoid their first three-game home sweep by Oakland since Aug. 4-6, 2006. The Mariners will be up against Haren who is 14-7 with a 3.03 ERA and owns the best ERA in the AL. Haren is 6-3 with a 2.71 ERA in 10 career starts against the Mariners and has an a 2.33 ERA against them this year. Seattle starting pitcher tonight will be Miguel Batista who is 13-11 with a 4.73 ERA this year but is 0-3 with an 8.72 ERA over his last four starts and was roughed up for six runs in 6 2/3 innings in Friday's 6-1 loss in Detroit. Batista is 3-4 with a 5.97 ERA in 16 career appearances against the A's and struggled against them this season going 1-2 with a 6.62 ERA.
