  • Yankees @ Blue Jays

We're going with the New York Yankees tonight to avoid being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Yankees lead in the NL East has been cut to just three games as the Red Sox have won their last two. The Yankees are 83-54 overall this season including 44-26 (+6.8 units) on the road. Expect a focused and determined New York to get back to their winning ways tonight.

Tonight's starter Jose Contreras (4-2, 5.09 ERA) was rocked by the Red Sox in his last outing but we expect him to bounce back tonight. He had won three straight prior to that outing, going seven innings in each start and allowing a total of just two earned runs.

The Blue Jays are an even 69-69 overall but at home have been very costly for bettors going just 31-36 (-15.5 units).

Cory Lidle (12-11, 6.08) gets the start for the Blue Jays and he is just 2-7 in his last ten starts. Five of those losses have been to sub .500 teams including one against the woeful Tigers. As discussed in this column many times previously a pitcher's K's to BB's ratio is a fantastic indicator of their effectiveness and Lidle actually has issued more walks (24) than he has strike-out's (23) in his last ten appearances. Compare that to Contreras' 23 K's to 8 BB's in his only four starts and we feel the Yankees have the pitching edge tonight. Lidle is 5-3 lifetime against the Yankees with a 4.32 ERA.

The Yankees are 13-5 (+6 units) as a road favorite of -125 to -150 this season and we expect them to get back on track with a win tonight.
