Big Board Sports College Football Sleepers and Disappointments
HTML Code:
College football is quickly approaching and BIG BOARD SPORTS is ready. Last season we boldly predicted, ”Michigan will be back and go to a major bowl.” We have made our calls to our contacts, studied the trends and statistics, and now we are prepared to give our football predictions for the coming season. We know that our readers know about USC, LSU and the other big name squads. We will discuss our own personal sleepers and disappointments for the upcoming 2007 season
SLEEPERS
1. Memphis- The Tigers will go 9-3 and go to a top bowl. With 16 starters, and the best defensive line in the conference, Memphis will bounce back big time behind Coach Tommy West and Senior QB Martin Hankins. West’s Tigers will battle S. Mississippi all season and will find themselves at the top of Conference USA.
2. Va. Tech –Big Board Sports sees The Hokies playing for the National Championship in January. We look for Va. Tech to upset LSU in week 2 and will be 8-0 when they visit Georgia Tech on Nov.1. Led by the best defense in the country and great special teams, the Hokies will survive a very tough schedule and meet USC for the national championship.
3. South Carolina– The Gamecocks will score points aplenty in 2007. Led by underrated QB Blake Mitchell, the Gamecock offense will be the most explosive in the SEC. With 10 defensive starters and Coach Spurrier’s innovative offense, the Gamecocks will be formidable on both sides of the ball. Look for a 10-win season and a big bowl victory for Coach Spurrier.
DISAPPOINTMENTS
1. Ohio University- The Bobcats return only 11 starters from an overachieving 2006 squad. We look for the close wins of 2006 to fall on the losing side of the ledger this season. Coach Solich will have it very tough this year as the returning MAC East Champs fall to 5-7 in 2007.
2. UAB- This looks like a clear rebuilding year as they have just 8 returning starters. They also draw the toughest schedule in the league and will not escape the basement in 2007.
3. Michigan State- Coach Dantonio steps into the most undisciplined squad in America. The Spartans play the upper half of The Big 10 with four of those on the road. Look for the Spartans to struggle early and take time to adjust to Coach Dantonio’s disciplined football.
