The New York Mets look to increase their lead in the NL East today when they open a three-game set with the second-place Atlanta Braves. The Mets (28-15), owners of the best record in the NL, have moved 2 1/2 games ahead of Atlanta (26-18) in the division after going 7-3 during a 10-game homestand. The Braves, meanwhile, went 4-6 on the road over that same time. The Mets won the first two games of the Subway Series with the Yankees and they will have former Brave Jorge Sosa (3-0, 2.25 ERA) on the mound tonight to help them build on the top road record in the majors at 14-5. The right-hander is coming off his best outing of the season Wednesday, when he allowed one run and one hit with five strikeouts over seven innings of an 8-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. The Braves will have Kyle Davies (1-2, 5.17) on the mound today and hope he can help get them back on track. He allowed six runs, two earned and five hits in 4 2/3 innings of a 6-4 loss at Washington on Wednesday. The Mets are in a good rhythm and so is their pitcher, Jorge Sosa, the Braves are struggling along with their pitcher Kyle Davies and it will be tough for him to get back on track against the division leading Mets today.
